extra power source
Peggy and I are camping at a local state park and it is rather chilly. We have an electric space heater and did not want to plug it in with everything else that is usually running. I had brought a 12-gauge outdoor extension cord with us and decided to run it as a separate circuit off the campsite box. I ran it through the same hole as my shore line and into the same compartment below the pantry. I then drilled a small hole in the wall as temporary access. When we get home I will install an outlet box and then have an extra power source separate from the main system. Works great so far and I don't have to worry about overtaxing the system when we need a little extra juice. See pictures.

I did that on our 01 Designer MH as well as our SENECA. No reason to burn propane unnecessarily.

I too do this all the time although I've been lazy about making the connection more permanent. It's a great way to get an extra 20A so the boss can dry her hair, iron clothes, or whatever... even when the A/C unit is running.

That is a pretty cool idea. I will have to look into doing this mod to my TT. I'd love to use our electric oil filled radiator in there.

I've been using an electric space heater in my TT for years. When I traded in my old 18' SOB for my Eagle, I bought an electric fireplace/heater for the main living area. It only took one tripped breaker to realize plugging it into the trailer's 120V system wasn't going to work. I've always carried a heavy-duty indoor/outdoor extension cord "just in case". I carefully ran it through the bottom corner of my slide-out weather seal and hooked it to the120V plug-in at the CG power post. Works great; keeps me warm, saves on propane, and haven't tripped a breaker since.

AS more and more people do this the campgrounds will have to raise their rates to cover the added cost..

Some friends recently became full-timers. When the cool weather(Houston TX) hit he was complaining about filling the gas bottles frequently. I commented on our elect heater and he bought 2 (50 amp service) and found it keeps them warm and comfy. They've seen about a $20 bump in the elect bill.

I full time and am currently hosting at a COE park. Right now I have 4 electric heaters going. The build in electric fireplace, one oil filled electric radiator, and one Honeywell space heater. All three of these are in the rear area. I also have a smaller ceramic heater in the bedroom on the dresser.
At night when in the low 20's I run the bedroom heater with the door closed so I'm nice an toasty. The rear area I only leave the radiator working on high which won't maintain the temperature by itself so I leave the furnace thermostat on 60. This setting allows the furnace to come on some during the night to maintain some heat to my tanks, etc. without using much propane. I have been done this since the first of January and have only used one 30lb propane tank. This has worked perfectly down to 13 degrees.
One morning when I was heating things back up and all heaters were running on high I went outside and looked at my EMS unit. Leg #1 was pulling 29 amps and Leg #2 was pulling 22 amps. I did have to play around with which heater to plug into which outlet to balance out the load so I wasn't tripping breakers. I think I also had the Splendide drying at the same time.
Hosting is profitable for me or at least $ saving this time of year. Unfortunately tomorrow morning I go back on duty for 3 days. Oh well, such is life.
