Let there be light! (In the pantry)

So I got tired of using a flashlight to find stuff in the pantry so I picked up some LED puck lights from Home Depot. They are 12v DC so I just cut the driver off and ran the wire to the bathroom light.

After finding out that there were studs in the ceiling on either side of the pantry I went with Cordmate Wiremold for a surface installation.


I did 3 lights in the pantry and 1 under the sink. More wiremold to keep the wires from being ripped out.


I added a microswitch so the lights will turn on and off when the door is opened. The lights came with a 2 brightness level rocker switch which I left place.


I used a shelf support socket to clean up the hole for the wire going under the sink.


Now we have light! AND the pressure switch means I won't find the lights on after days of being home because the DW didn't turn them off. Now she complains that she's going to have to straighten up the pantry because she can see how much of a mess it is! Got the lights on sale so the whole thing cost ~ $60

Thanks for posting!! Got some great ideas! I'd still like to see if I can find a 12V source from somewhere behind the cabinets. DW doesn't like surface installs... We'll see what I can come up with...

*UPDATE!*

Just got home from 4 nights camping and I have to say this is THE BEST thing I have ever done. So convenient! I thought having the light in there on a switch was good but putting the micro switch is the way to go!

Great mod oobedoob. Cool that you used the microswitches the way you did. Maybe you could hook up another set to a motion sensor for the living area.

With the 2 little ones, there is a lot of ninja stealth pitch black bathroom trips in the middle of the night. I won't be putting anything motion switched in the trailer haha!
