Luggage door upgrade- anyone?

On my 01' Qwest 29' it has the pass through storage up front, exterior door on each side, and then one storage area passenger side rear.

Each storage area seems to have plenty of space, yet the door openings are so small it restricts you from getting certain things in there (RVQ2 for example.

I'm pretty handy, but still not ready to attack the side of my new (to me) trailer with a scroll saw.

Has anyone done an upgrade like this? Maybe even to doors that swing out instead of up?

Maybe its more work than its worth on an old 01' but wanted to throw it out there.

Thanks in advance.

You may find doing this that you will hit a wall stud... contact Jayco first they MAY be able to tell you where the studs are...

While we are on the topic of storage compartments dont store anything of real value in those areas till you first change the locks... WE ALL have CH751 keys.. almost every manufacture uses that key.... I changed mine over before it left the dealers lot...

ps my compartment door is 1/16" too small to get my TV sat dish into...

LOL....I can get my dish in the front one, but have to remove the lnb, and then there is a tad amount of tweaking that goes on to get it in there. Of course once its past the opening, you can move it around where ya want. Thats also with the mast pole on it, but the current pole is only about 18-24" long. I use a weight lifting weight with a threaded piece welded to it as my stand. Works like a champ!

Small doors in bigger storage spaces seems to be common to the industry. It would sure be nice if the doors were as big as the storage space. I have had to be extra careful with large/heavy items so I don't bend the metal frame on the bottom of the opening. I don't want to cause a water leak at the door.

I saw a post recently where someone had enlarged the opening. They were hesitant to begin such a job but the finished product looked great. It may have been RV.net
