Magnet Storage door catches

I'm curious how folks mount magnetic door catches for the outside storage compartments. I'm looking at them online and they all seem to have hole for screws but there is no way I'm putting screws through my camper.

I'm afraid an adhesive of some kind will just melt off in the hot sun.

I'm a little annoyed I over looked this minor detail as the current catches are annoying.

I'm open to any ideas.

Thanks in advance!

I looked into magnet latches myself and decided against putting holes on the outside surface. I’m now looking into gas struts which are more expensive. HatchLift makes kits that are easy to install.

A high quality adhesive will not melt off. If you remember the Oldsmobile Aurora, the roof panel was put on with adhesive, no welds.I would not be afraid to adhere the catches with "Lock-tite Power Grab".

Your camper already has screw holes. Fill the holes with silicone before putting in the screws and then add some more to the back of the magnet to keep water from getting behind them and your good to go!

Try adhesive, not much risk if it does fall off.

Magnetic catches

I did put screw holes in when I did install the magnetic catches. I did fill the holes with Silcone and put some on back of magnet, also around the edges.
No issues, wish I bought another set for another door. Spring project.

Magnets

I installed the magnet in the same location as the original catch on the trailer (holes already there -one hole already lines up just had to make 1new hole ) where I went ocd is I took the door apart- drilled out all the rivets ( hinge and trim ring) and scraped out the styrofoam between inner and outer door skin so I could shove a magnet in between and presto! No holes in door - pop rivet it all back together- like magic no holes in door! Sorry about the run on sentences it’s almost midnight, gotta save my brain for mods !

Google 3M 4200/5200, used on FG/tin boats, one is permanent, one is not.
