Mods so far

Here are some of my first mods. I got my ideas from other people posts, love this forum.
I made an slide awning from corrugated plastic, 3/4" plastic pipe and caps. It just lays in the gutter above the slide.

Nice! I've done the chocks. Want to do the water heater and sewer hose eventually also.
Is your fence post held in place with brackets attached to the frame?

I bought metal strapping similar to what is used on the holding tanks, just narrower. Bolted that to the frame.

How do you keep your "slide awning" from blowing away?

I like your hot water heater and sewer hose mod. How, or what did you connect the fence post to on the trailer?

I keep a bag of different size spring clamps with us. If I think the wind will get hard enough I will just clip it to the gutter. It that doesn't work I will use a bungee cord or strap. Trying to keep it simple.

How is the fence post attached?

I think it is called hanger iron at Lowes. It's similar to the straps around the holding tanks. I wrapped this around the fence post and bolted it to the frame.

Do you recall what size connection was needed to adapt the hose to the hot water heater plug fitting? Nice idea.

And if I can add to the question - where did you get that fitting/nipple? I've looked at both Home Depot and Lowes without success.

Will a Rhino hose fit better in that fence post? Once I replaced my rusted bumper with one but should have went to the 5" instead of 4.

If you shave off the "ears" of the Rhino flex hose it will fit in a 4" bumper. I think I only had to shave off 2 adjoining ones to make it fit.

I have a Rhino Flex and it fits in my bumper. Had the Rhino on my previous TT (which had round tubes underneath for storing). I had lightly shaved the ears as mentioned by Seann45 to make it slide in properly

I just took my water heater plug with me to Lowes and told the guy what I wanted to do. I was lucky and got a employee with a little knowledge and he helped me find exactly what I needed.

I've been to Ace Hardware, Lowes, Home Depot, and a few other places. I cannot find the nylon nipple/fitting that replaces the HW heater drain plug so you can then thread on the braided faucet line. Can anyone tell me where to get this piece?

Lowes carries the fitting. Make sure it will tolerate hot water.

I just did this mod and I used a 1/2" NPT (national pipe thread) brass nipple fitting that was about 1 1/2" long. It is a real pain to try to get the fitting tight. Don't use the fitting on the braided hose to tighten the brass pipe. You will over tighten the braided hose! I went with the brass fitting because of the heat issue. You can find these brass fittings in the "little" bags that have different plumbing parts in them at your Big Box stores. Once your done, hook up your water hose and fill the hot H2O tank to make sure your fittings are tight. Also wrap your brass fitting with Teflon tape.

If your water heater has (had) a white nylon plug, you shouldn't use a brass fitting to replace it. The brass will degrade the anode and/or heating element in the water heater. You should be able to use a CPVC (the beige plastic - not the white plastic PVC) pipe nipple instead. Also, make sure you get a 1/2" FPT (Female Pipe Thread) water line, not a toilet line or 1/2" compression water line.

I am not sure I agree. I replaced the plastic plug on my water heater 7 years ago with a brass adapter/anode plug, then with a steel drain valve. NO issues.

In fact I removed the plug this year to inspect the anode, and found no deterioration.

Brownie, The brass fitting will not harm your hot water heater anode, that is if you have one. Very few RV hot water tanks have an anode rod (mine being one of them). The only thing that brass will do is start corrosion where the brass and cast iron (hot water tank) meet. This is why I use Teflon tape on the brass fitting. Now the Teflon will not stop the corrosion but it will slow it down. However it will take several years of use before any corrosion will start.

But if this bothers someone, then just use a dielectric union. Sorry but plastic fittings break to easily.
