Greetings JOF: I was wondering if anyone has modified their blue waste wagons, specifically removing the factory-installed plastic wheels and replacing them with pneumatic? I have recently purchased a 28 gallon Barker tote, and I've read horror stories of wheels breaking off while en route to the dumping stations!! Not to mention the fact that the plastic wheels are very loud and I hate to make a lot of noise while camping. Pictures would be greatly appreciated, but any advice is welcome, too. Looking to install 10" X 3" wheels, and I want to make sure I do it right. Thanks, and Happy Camping!!
Why pull when you can ride to the DS?
The flames are a nice touch...
Had 'er over 18mph several times...
Excellent ground clearance...
Pretty clever....
I`ve done the pneumatic wheel mod to my Barker 22, only has the rear wheels. Got the wheels/tires from Harborfreight. Had to make a longer axle to accomodate the new wheels, got a piece of shaft from the hardware store. Drilled holes in each end of shaft and used cotter pins as retainers. There are some detailed threads on doing this mod on RVnet, some for the 4 wheel models as well.

Plastic wheels make a lot of noise but they will last a long time if you keep the speed down to a brisk walk. I see a lot of people that hook them behind a quad or their truck and then drive 20mph to the dump station. They will also last a lot longer if you haul it from the dump station back to your camper.
