I'm considering this for my trailer as well. I have some concerns about how it works on uneven ground. I do see they are adjustable to compensate but I'd sure like to hear from you after you use it for a while.

Also, lets say id wasn't ideal for a certain site (such as when my trailer is near my shop for instance.... is it easily removable to access the trailer if clearance was an issue to deploy?

It's not hard to remove them. Just a screw driver. You would probably want to carry the threshold cover with you to cover the exposed screw holes though.

Met a fellow at the storage lot this past weekend with a brand new Forest River 5er that had these steps. He flipped them out and I got a pretty good look. The bride first noticed and asked, "Where are his steps?". The space below the door had the normal trim, no cutout for stairs.
They are nice.

Hey tledwards25
What model # of the "StepAbove" did you end up ordering for your 29.5.
Was it an easy install?
We have same year and model and was looking at installing these.
How about the gas cylinder? Were you able to get one back on?
Cheers!
Steve

Im wondering the same about the piston mount for the door closure. I have the steps in my Amazon list. Getting ready to pull the trigger. Install looks super easy

I drilled a hole into the plate to clear the ball stud. I take the prop rod off when opening the door all the way - easy to do. Otherise the door will hit the awning arm. I have a 3 step model and I believe the 30 inch. I can send pics next I go to the storage unit. Check your backwalls and the metal trim piece. Mine wasn't assembled properly and had to have the entire rear wall replaced - water leak.

I take that back - I bolted a new ball stud to the plate of the steps and had to drill a hole in the door threshold to clear the bottom of the ball stud (threaded portion)

Since reading this thread I've been considering upgrading our fifthwheel steps. This last weekend we camped where there were units with the Step Above, the Solid Step and the GlowStep. Found this recent review of all three and am leaning towards the GlowStep Revolution.
https://weekendrvadventures.com/best-rv-step/
He makes good points in his comparison, but what my spouse and I liked most about the Torklift product is the ease of deployment (lighter than the others), the fact that you can not just open the door at a stop and put groceries or other items inside with tipping down the stairs, and that you don't tip the GlowStep, dirt grass mud sand into the RV.
Still in the comparison mode, will make measurements and look at cost.
Anyone have new observations since this thread was last updated?

We’re very pleased with our Torklift Glowstep. I reported earlier that I found them “fidley” but after a few uses it’s great. I sprayed the joints with silicone and that made it super easy to open and close. The Bride finds them much easier to manage and more stable compared to the original steps. They also work well in tighter space.

Redhorse1, did you do the install? I've been in email discussion with Torklift over finding the right model and parts we'll need. I just want to avoid getting it all here, removing my steps, then finding out that things aren't right.

Cosmic, yes I did it myself. The Torklift web site has measuring instructions and I ordered the corresponding kit accordingly.
There were 2 bolts pointing down that the original steps were mounted to. I separated the new steps from their mounting frame (just a few bolts) to make it lighter and discovered I had to turn the end brackets around for proper fit to the original bolts. I then used the supplied self-tapping screws to attach the step frame to the trailer frame. I then put the step assembly back into its mounting frame (the steps were a bit heavy so I used a floor jack and piece of 2x4 to lift the steps into the mounting frame.
There’s a YouTube of the install which I watched a couple of times and tho my install seemed a bit more complex and took longer I still got it done.
Don’t think I took any pics of the install but think I have a couple of post install. I’ll look and post ‘em if I can find ‘em.

Cosmic, I did a little more searching and found the install manual. I think the part I had to reverse is called “adjustable back bracket” (not the “side plates”) and there is one on each end. I think if you surf their web site you’ll find it for download. If you don’t find it PM me with an email addy and I’ll send you a copy.

Thanks for all of this. The reassuring part is your pic is the "empty hole", where I see the rear frame mounting holes and the two bolts from above, which is the same as mine.

Torklift is suggesting I need their Vertical Stud Adapter Bracket (Part Number A8022). They bolt on each end and allow use of the vertical bolts down from above. That sound like what you used?
One nice thing is that I can order through my local dealer and get a 10% discount which should be about $65.

Cosmic, at first I didn’t recall ordering an additional set of brackets but looking at the part you referenced I’m thinking I do recall ordering it. I certainly remember installing it. I will be at the 5th tomorrow and will see if I can get a pic of the bracket. The part I had to put in reversed was the “L” shaped one and they show it with the “L” pointing to the outside. My step box area was too narrow so I mounted them with the “L” pointing in.
Anyway, I’ll look at it tomorrow and hopefully get a decent pic.
I just took another look at the manual and it’s actually the install manual for the “Vertical Stud Adapter Kit”. So looks like I did buy the kit.

Ordered it all today after conversation with torklift to make certain what was needed. Don't bother with pics, have really good youtube video of the whole install, with verticle stud adapter and all, being put on a Jayco fiver, same process and kit.
Thanks again.

Installed today and other than having to go to Ace for two missing bolts, install was a breeze. Thanks for the encouraging advice.

Good to hear. How you liking it? Ours was a bit stiff at first, I sprayed silicone on the joints and after a week or so it got too loose. Some of the bolts are indicated as tension adjustment points. Fiddled with them and now think I’ve got it dialed in.
