If you go with AGM's you can mount them in your pass through storage. I've considered it..

I decided against it, but not because it isn't a viable option. I just don't want more storage than my 2 panels can adequately charge. AGM's would probably be the way to go though if you needed it.. watch how it alters your hitch weight though.

Yes. It would be bad due to venting off corrosive fumes and potential spillage.

Lead Acid batteries sometimes release hydrogen sulfide gas, hydrogen and sulfur dioxide during their charging cycles. You don't want to be breathing it and it also creates an explosion hazard in non-vented applications.

An engineer (or excellent DIY'er) could build a venting box within your pass through that would expel this stuff outside... but assuming your bed, and other living space is right above your pass through, I would never risk it.

Yeah, I once bought a Class C motorhome with a second coach battery (conventional lead-acid) someone had located underneath the dinette seat, sitting right there in a plastic battery box. ONce I found it, I built a shelf for it underneath, outside, next to the chassis frame rail. Was difficult to reach, but never worried about the fumes from there.

Many people put 4 or more batteries on the tongue. You just have to modify the brackets or install new ones. Your 26Bh should have room for 4 across the front.

Install some longer angle iron across the frame rails or install a large battery box. Some people have used a pickup truck tool box in that location as well.

Lots of options as long as you have the payload in your tow vehicle. Two 6 volt batteries is 150lbs and the majority of that will be adding to your tongue weight.

Cheers

The only difference between the battery compartment and the pass through storage (at least in my trailer) is a partial height, thin as paper, piece of plywood. So there is really no difference between the two areas.

Properly vented, batteries in the pass through are no worse than the "battery compartment".

That's probably the real issue. Batteries "properly vented" or just placed in the underneath storage with no venting or, improper venting.
