New Flooring installation

Got tired of the disgusting carpet so I installed this floating vinyl plank flooring. Supposedly, it's waterproof. I have yet to install the quarter round but thought it quite an improvement. Now we'll see if it will hold up to the 100 degree temp swings.

Got any details on which flooring you used and installation pictures?

Is that the congoleum vinyl? We installed it in some cabins with no heat over the winter, did have some issues since it really shrank and caused wrinkling issues when warmed up. I would be interesting to know your experiences with your product.

It's a Shaw flooring product and it interlocks rather than some sort of adhesive strip. I got it at Lowes but hesitate to recommend it until I see how it does through one complete hot/cold season cycle. It was easy to install and I left about 1/4" expansion at the perimeters (I figure that was ample since it was installed in 80 degree temps). I posted it now (cuz I like the way it looks) and will report next year on how it does.
I'm going to replace the crappy carpet on the slide with a better grade of commercial carpet. Can't do a hard surface due to the way the slide sub floor is constructed.

That should work better, The adhesive strip didn't allow for any movement. Looks great.

looks really nice! Was your previous floor all carpet or a combination of flooring/carpet?

Twas a combination of sheet vinyl and carpet (but mostly carpet). I've heard that RV manufacturers put sheet vinyl throughout then overlay with carpet, but that was not the case in my 5er. So, I also pulled up the vinyl which was easy cuz it was only glued down in a couple spots (I put baby powder down over the sticky "stuff" because it was impossible to get up and I didn't want the new flooring to stick to it). The most difficult part of removal was getting all the carpet staples out. I used a vice grips to pry them out.

Update: It's been a year and I'm still quite pleased with the new flooring. It came through the winter cold temps just fine (course, it was a mild winter here in "God's Country" ).
I did have one plank that shrank up about 1/8" away from the moulding but that was my fault cuz I cut it too short and was wondering if I would have "shrinkage" come winter...and I did, but not bad. The only other problem I had were the scratches put on the new floor from the slide-out but I solved that (see other post and pictures, if interested). Much easier to just sweep and keep clean instead of funky old carpet.

Question

My husband and I are going to replace the flooring in our Jayco Mini. He asked a dealer about the vinyl planks and the guy said he didn't recommend using planks. Since we are relative new to this (we bought our 1990 Jayco Mini 27 in 2014...excellent condition, low mileage and very few hours on generator), we are at a loss as to what kind of flooring to replace the carpet with.... I like the vinyl planks but my husband is looking toward vinyl sheeting. I also have a question about road noise with vinyl versus carpet. Thank you....

Well the original post on this thread is about someone who did just that and is happy with it so far. Either way, you will have to put shoe molding around the edges to keep it anchored.

Did this mod to a older rig. Worked out nice. Only problem we had is where the dogs water bowl was. Had to replace a couple of boards, it was easy because of the floating floor install. Now we have a drip proof / splash proof water bowl for the dogs.

You might want to look in vinyl flooring that looks just like wood floors. My new 5W has that type vinyl and wife liked it so well we installed it in a rental. Comes in assorted colors dark - light.

Do not be afraid to put vinyl plank in. My wife's family are 3 or 4th generation floor people. My father in law helped me rip out the carpet and replace the floors with vinyl plank in my old 5th wheel. You just have to get a quality one (don't save few cents per sqft on the cheap stuff), and what the call "click floor" where it isn't glued in place but clicks together, and finally leave about 1/8" or so between the wall and the floor (This is covered from sight by molding and allows for expansion). Mine looked great. That was my old 5th and now my new one has it from the factory I believe. Atleast I thought it looked like plank but I take delivery on it this Saturday!

Look at this product. Luxury Vinyl Tile. LVT.

https://www.thespruce.com/easy-insta...ooring-1822808

Easy to install. I helped my son do his whole house.

Since the rv is a small place, I recommend getting the best product you can afford. They come in many price ranges.

Expansion and contraction is very common with flooring.
