Norcold Refrigerator Vent Fan Thermostat Switch Placement

Howdy,

I am going to install a fridge vent fan and thermostat switch to turn on/off in our TT soon. The fridge is not in a slide and vents out the roof. I am going to install it at the bottom of the vent space behind the fridge and push hot air out the top. I am unsure of where to locate the thermostat switch (working space is a premium in the compartment). My parts were purchased from Appliance and Air on eBay, both fan and switch. Does anyone have recommendations for the thermostat switch placement in a similar configuration? Pics would be great, too, as I can't find any on the Web showing thermostat placement.

Thanks,
Mike

Getting ready to do this in a couple of weeks but no input from this forum. Bumping to the top.

I put my thermostat right on the boiler tube. The fan won't come on unless the boiler is up to temp. That's the tube that's sloped up at about a 30 degree angle on the lower part of the fridge. It gets pretty warm when the fridge is running.

Thanks. Do you have a picture how you attached it?

The alligator clipped white wire runs up to the fan in my fridge through the drain tube. I also put in a switch to keep the outside fan turned off if I want. I only run the outside fan if it's hot outside. You could do a variation of this by just putting a 100 degree thermostat in the space and not have it pressed up against the boiler tube, but I wanted to be able to turn on the fan any time I wanted to if the fridge was running.

One of the red wires goes to the outside fan (up by the top vent) and the other red wire goes to power. You can get those connectors at any hardware store.

How did you attach the thermostat switch to the tube? Thanks for the pic.

Hi Norty1, are those just regular black zip ties that you used to hold the thermostat switch onto the tube? Thanks for the pics.

It's rather hokey, but I attached the switch and thermostat to a metal bracket and bent the metal bracket so the thermostat would press up against the pipe. The metal bracket has a 90 degree at the bottom and just tucks under the gap between between two pieces of metal underneath it. The zip ties that Norty used is a better solution.

Yes, it came with some tape and said to wrap it but it kept being loose. I put that zip tie on there 5 years ago and it has not moved or melted.

Good deal, thanks, that will simplify things for me.
