Pics of toolbox mod

Here are some pics of the toolbox I mounted behind the LP bottles. Had to move the bottles forward about an inch or so for clearance.

It is mounted with u-bolts around the a-frame. Battery wires routed through a grommet in the bottom. The shape of the toolbax allows for clearance for the snap-up brackets.

Hope this helps-I know that a few people were inquiring about this.

The battery fits perfectly. I made a hold-down system out of wood so the battery doesn't move around. I still need to install the vent louvers so the fumes can escape-they just haven't gotten here yet. I found the u-bolts at a local hardware store. I couldn't find them at Lowes or Home Depot.

Looks good Dave! Just wondering, have you thought about putting a cover over the positive terminal? It would cause a pretty severe spark if a wrench or something fell across positive and negative. Might fry something in the TT.

Great idea, Bill. I will put some sort of cover over it-just in case.

That turned out pretty professional looking! I wish our model didn't have such a heavy tongue otherwise we could consider doing this also. Good Job!

West Marine sells the rubber terminal boots pretty cheap. They just slip over the end of the battery cable and that's about the easiest way to cover them..

Great Mod Dave. Would a single battery rv case with cover fit in there. If so I have one in the garage you can have.

I tried the battery box that the battery was in originally, but it won't fit. I actually have a revised hold down that will work a little better and found some marine battery post covers.

Thanks for all the feedback, everyone.

Did you install the vent louvers to get rid of the battery fumes? Any Pics? I think I am going to this on mine. Looks good!

Have you considered the corrosive nature of the hydrogen sulfide battery vapors? Deep cycle batteries are vented at the fill caps.

When I first saw your mod I thought that would be the first thing I do. Then when we got our new trailer the front is different and there is no way I can do itl

Sorry, I got my chemistry terminology wrong, should have said Sulfate.

Mayhap you could mount it on the rear bumper?

If you go to modmyrv.com and look at exterior mods, you'll find one where a trailer owner had two custom diamond tread boxes made and mounted them on the rear bumper. I don't know if I could post the guy's email address here, so go to that site. There is an old link to an ebay page with the guy's name and number that builds the boxes. I'm having him build one for me to very precise dimensions so that it takes up half of the rear bumper and goes up to just under the taillight. It's going to be tall enough to carry my air compressor along with some other heavy stuff that I didn't want on the tongue. The price was also very good, $250 plus shipping to me. You can't go to Northern Tool and buy one for that price, and a custom built box solves a lot of issues.
If you have trouble getting the contact info, PM me and I'll send it to you. BTW, he's building mine so that the door opens by swinging down. The design is called "under truck". I'm having the width made so that it doesn't stick out past my spare tire. MY shore power connects in the middle of the back wall, so I'll have the box on one side of the inlet and the spare tire on the other side. Not symetrical, but it's what I have to work with.
