Portable Waste Tank - Storage Problem Solved
We have a Hummingbird 17RB that we tow with an Explorer. We bought a Barker 4-wheeler portable waste tank to extend our time between dumping the black and gray water tanks but we had a dilemma. Where were we going to store the thing while transporting the travel trailer! Keeping it inside the trailer or the Expedition was not a great option. I got some ideas from an internet search and came up with this solution for a total cost of about $75. I ordered a bumper mounted 2-bike rack from Harbor Freight ($31 with a 20% discount). I modified it by drilling 2 holes at the base of the mounting post so that I could mount the bike hanging brackets at the bottom of the post instead of at the top of the post as intended. I also turned the brackets upside down which gives more vertical length to mount the tank (See photos). I bought an RV bumper hitch adapter ($29 from Amazon) which is mounted on the back bumper to receive the bike rack. Since my wife wasn't too happy with having the "blue tank" permanently mounted to the back of the TT, I bought a grille cover for a round grill from a close-out store ($15). It turned out much better than I expected. We just took it on the first trip and it has worked beautifully!
