Question: Drilling up from underneath?

Hi all,

Has anyone drilled up into an exterior wall from underneath? Reason for my asking:

We have a Bell Satellite in a 29BHS G2. Where the receiver is, we can connect to the factory installed TV no problem. To get the signal to the front bedroom requires HDMI, or Component video. From the factory, Jayco only has coax running to the front. After getting the wall framing pics from Jayco Customer Service (They have been great), they recommended running the cable down, through the cupboards (to hide it), out through the floor, run across the bottom of the trailer (within the plastic membrane cover that would have to be dropped a bit), and then up through the floor in the bedroom. To conceal it a bit further, i figure i would try to come up into the wall right away where there are no studs, and drop the cable where the Coax is. In the dark tonight, i was feeling around underneath, and where i think i have to come up, is the grey metal finishing peice that curves under the unit a bit. I think this may impede the drill a bit.

Any thoughts or experience with this?

I have DirecTV and I use the coax that runs from the back to the bedroom. I split the signal at the back, run it through the existing RG6 coax to the bedroom where I have a second receiver. The coax feeds the receiver and you have an HDMI feed for your tv from the second receiver. Much easier than drilling holes and running wiring under the trailer and through the walls. And you can watch a different program in the bedroom at the same time.

When I installed my solar wiring I went along the outside edge so I would not have to drop the corrugated plastic. I used wire ties and attached them to the frame bolts. I had no real problems using the drill under that wrap around piece.
Use expanding foam to fill the area around the hole when your done, and then a can of aerosol truck bed liner to keep it water proof.

Thanks! Unfortunately the new receivers no longer have a coax out feature for us. That would have made it too easy.
Sean. Thanks, I'll have a look when it stops raining out. Good idea about just running along the edge. That would make it easier. I'm hoping that I can just go straight up through the floor and get to the inside of the exterior wall.

Have you looked for an adapter for this?

Just Google "HDMI to Coax", there are adapters and cables made to allow you to use the existing RG6 wiring and connect it to the HDMI on your receiver.

Thanks cablerum. I did also find some cat5e to hdmi that also include the ir extender for the remotes. I'm going to try to find a place to run the cable for the benefit of the ir all in one unit. Looking underneath, there are 2 sections. The middle section is in closed with the plastic cover and down the side length it's not as low and covered with what feels like paper. I'm going to investigate this area and sw if I can get into the exterior wall.

If your unit has a satellite connector and a cable connector on an exterior wall, you can use a splitter to connect the satellite coax to the cable inlet without any other wiring- That's how Dish hooked up our satellite- Now we can watch 2 different programs on 2 different tvs- My DW can even record a different program on the second tv while we watch something else on the first tv- If this will work and you need our help, I'm available most days- I am not very computer literate but my DW may be able to post pics if necessary- Good luck! Anytime I have to run cables around I always like to use WIREMOLD/RACEWAY products that allows me to lay my cables inside of it and dresses up real nice if it ends up on the outside of walls or cabinets.



Lowes/HomeDepot sells these CordmateII kits that has alot of corner parts and things. This has sticky tape onthe back but I always use small wood screws on both end of each section after I stick them in place. These are good for 12-feet of wiremold runs.


If I have to go through a floor I will use a PVC electrical wall box something like this on both sides of the floor and drill a large hole between them. If it is a thick wall I will glue in some solid conduit pipe thru the center flush with both the bottom of both boxes on each side. These type boxes will use 1/2 or 3/4 inch flex PVC conduit. Boxes comes in many different shapes and sizes. Makes for great dress up and also is weather resistant as well as bug and mouse resistant.


I was just never one for drilling a hole thru the wall or floor and stick a cable in it. I always try to think a head alittle bit and maybe I might need to run more cables from the top side to the pass-thru storage area and now i can just fish a new cable throu the conduit. All neat and pretty looking for momabear.
