Remote generator
What kind of generator should be used to run AC in 2019 JayFlight BHS?? I’m not sure a Honda 2000 would do the trick..

After looking for months I went with a refurbished Champion 3100-watt inverter, and I'm real glad I did. Mine came in a factory box without a scratch on it. The remote start is really nice... start it from inside the TT day or night. It's a little heavy, but I can load it at my age.

Thanks Riverman - if I understand correctly, did you mount that gen into your trailer? I’ve thought about doing that as well only the cost of the install would be quite costly. And I suppose I’d have to go with a 3000 watt to run the trailer AC system, etc. Deserves some research..

I have a 28BHS and it has the 15K air conditioner. I knew I wanted the Champion Inverter Generator and I knew I wanted remote start. The question was between the 3100W and the 3400W. I decided to go with the 3400W because I have the larger air conditioner (15K vs 13.5K) and didn't want to take any chances, and also the ability to have extra power available for other things while it's running. I have no need for the dual fuel option. The noise difference, weight difference, and cost difference was small to none, so I went that route. It's been great.

Hey thanks much! That’s exactly the route I’ve been looking at, that same generator (3400) for the same reasons. I appreciate the feedback!

I also have a Champion 3100si with remote starter. It's a great machine and has no problem powering up anything in my rig. It's fairly quiet. I agree that it's a little heavy (96 lbs) to lift into my truck bed but I usually have someone around to help. They are reasonably priced and very reliable. To me, it makes a lot more sense than buying 2 Honda 2000 to run an air conditioner.

I have the champion 3400with remote start. Love it only drawback is small fuel tank. Otherwise love it. I have 2 air conditioners in mine. Only run one at a time. Use at high altitudes all summer in Colorado.

We had to buy both Honda Generators to run our A/C, one would not do it all the time. They are only about 50 lbs each with a short load of fuel. We had the money when we bought them without a credit card. We have had them for about four years and there has been lots of additions to the market lately.
I seem to struggle less with one in each hand or one at a time than one bigger generator that is 95 pounds. (had a loud Champion 3500/4000) It would be nice to have the remote start, but never needed it. A remote start means adding the weight of a small battery and a small starter motor.

Did you put the high alt jet in the carb?

Make sure you follow the recommended break in procedure and you'll be good to go. Run it every month or two and put a load on it. This also keeps the battery topped up. Changing the oil right after the break in is a good idea to flush any metal particles out that were produced on initial run.

I haven’t run it yet, and “no” on the high alt jet in the carb. Not sure of the use or need of that item? I’m interested in the use of it however.
And I will definitely follow the proper break in procedures and oil change! Thanks for the heads up.

No need to run a generator every month. It is more important to drain the gasoline from the carburetor to avoid gum built up. Every generator has a little drain screw on the carburetor.

I have one too and the small fuel tank sucks. Here in TX with my old trailer and single 13,5KW AC, it won't make it from 11pm til dawn on a tank and would have to get up and go fill it.
I bought the IPI kit for the Champions but haven't ran it yet. Now I don't see it on their site but did find this.

I know my IPI kit also came with a rubber cap to cap off the small metal overflow nipple just inside the fuel fill neck...so just FYI.

If I remember correctly the Champions don't function the same as the Hondas for the extended run tanks. There was some decent modification needed to introduce the suction needed to move fuel from the extended run to the main tank. I believe I saw some videos on youtube about the install method.

Why not the Champion 3800-Watt Dual Fuel RV Ready Portable Generator with Electric Start on Amazon for $487 and free shipping. Larger than the 3400 and half the price???
