Remove rounded cabinet on island?

Has anyone removed these useless cabinets? Or found a use for them?

Well, we don't have them on our trailer, but I sure would not remove any storage space. Why not put the dowel rods across and use it for a spice rack? Maybe remove the rounded ends and replace them with square ones for more useful space.
Maybe add a narrow cabinet from floor to counter in place of the rounded ends?

we were thinking of removing this side of island and using the space to house a garbage can out of the way
the spice rack idea is a great one will keep that in mind for the other side

will removing the piano hinge damage the cabinet significantly or can i just fill the screw holes?

I can tell ya the rounded end would be full of "cooking supplies" olive oil, sauces, powders, vinegar, coca, etc. the DW uses to feed everyone that visits our place.

I would have to modify the shelves to keep things from "flying" when it was opened.

The island itself is most likely screwed to the floor.

Removing it won't hurt anything. But I'd retain it for resale. If it were me, I'd keep "soft" items in it. Dish towels, Solo cups, extra sponges, etc. If you do remove it, just fill the holes with Elmers Wood filler then use a furniture touch-up pen to match the stain as close as possible.

X2 and your plan of putting a garbage can in its place would be real convenient. If there's room left I would hang a dish towel for drying my hands.

We use it as our pantry..... keep snacks like crackers and chips, breads, etc. inside them. They can't handle anything heavy so this works well for us.
