Replaced Door Latches on 19H Fold Down Beds

I have been wanting to do this mod for as long as I can remember. I finally found some of the latest and greatest latches at a RV Surplus place in Indiana. Normally they would cost about $50.00 each on-line, I got them for $30.00 each which was a nice savings. The old screw down latches were tired and not as secure as the new latches. The new latches are all keyed alike so I only need one key to lock all of them. No more Master locks dangling off my TT !!!! Thank God !!!! The installation was simple and sweet, no issues whatsoever.
Getting ready to pack up and head out for 12 days which will encompass close to 1500 miles.

Happy Camping !!!

Those look sweet! Much better than the ghetto screw knobs.

It looks great. Mine came with the latches you put on, but my latches are the other way so that you swing the latches down in order to open the bunks. Was that an option for you?

Honestly, I feel really stupid right now because I have no idea. It seemed like the right way to install them. I am sure I could do it either way but this is what I chose and it is 10 times better than what I had.

I have those latches on my rig, and they are really nice to use and very secure.

If you or your wife is a bit shorter, you may like having the locks a little lower. My DW hates to (un)lock the front beds as she just can’t reach them. She has no issues with the handles as she uses them as a pull handle to balance, and she does not worry about breaking a key off.

There is a rubber plug/cap that will cover the lock. My X23B (2012) came with these latches and one latch was missing the cap. I called Jayco and they sent me a package of 4 (wow, Spares!). I don't think they're mandatory but it covers the lock. From your pic it looks like you have a plug on the hole above the lock.
As cm11' points out and as it is on mine the bunk part is mounted with the latch pointing down but can't imagine why your orientation won't work.

Yeah, I 'm sure it will work but it's probably easier to swing if they are oriented the other way.

There are no plugs that come with the aftermarket latches that I bought. I am currently out with the TT now and really love the latch set up. Although the orientation is different from the way Jayco actually does it, they are working great and could not be happier. The great thing about this also is that my wife is 5' 11" and has no issue reaching the latches. Not to say that when we upgrade the next person won't be piling up phone books to let the beds down.

I found them at a RV Surplus store in White Pigeon, MI called Bontrager's.
You can find them at www.bontragers.com

Resurrecting an old thread here. When you switched to this type latch, does it keep pressure on the door to keep it tight to the seals? Your old screw style latch would appear to give a good tight seal. Is there some way to adjust the new latch to give the proper amount of tightness? I may be upgrading to this type system soon, as my old T-handle style latch has stripped out.
Thanks,
Mike

I never lock mine, don't know why but I just never did. There's no way they can open by themselves while your traveling and there always open when your camping. It's parked next to the house and always covered and I live at the very top of the hill.

I would love this new latch on my '07, but my doors are recessed. We've replaced the T handle locks once already due to stripping. Still looking for an alternative. Tried latches similar to these before the replacement but the screws holding the latch pulled right out, nothing to screw them into. Jayco was no help when I asked, even giving my vin, they never answered.

I have a 2005, are those universal? I would love to replace my latches, they are rusting and hard to turn. I would love to know the exactly place you purchased them from.

I used this style on mine so I would get pressure on top and bottom.

Be ready to drill a few holes in each door but I haven't had any issues with them. I do suggest stainless hardware.

I used a carriage bolt so the inside would be smooth and on the outside I capped the end of the bolt/but with a rubber cap like would be used on a vacuum port in a carb'd engine. Wasn't difficult to do but is easier with an extra set of hands.
