Replaced some cheese
Travel trailers with a dinette/couch slide have a thin 5/8" particle board half wall in between the the two. I had this in my last trailer (Forest River Rockwood) and now the same on my Jayco. I decided to beef this up a bit so I could sit at my dining table and lean back with confidence knowing I wont break the wall. I realize TT manufacturers need to make the trailers light, but this is one place I believe they should add some beef, so I did.
I removed the particle board and bought a sheet of finished birch plywood. Cut two pieces similar size as the original and sandwiched them together. I put a 3/4" birch hardwood edge on the top and front, sanded, stained and finished. I added screws and a full length piece of aluminum L bracket and adhesive to attach it to the wall. I also added a cup holder for good measure. Here's the final product.

Nukeneck, Just saw your mod for the dinette and just a question. You mention the 3/4 inch birch trim, what is it? Is it a corner bead or a flat strip? Curious because I am looking to buy a Jay flight 26BH that has the dinette and weak structure. This looks like a great fix and would like to know more about your project.

Nice work. There is a lot of cheese in these RVs that needs replacing, lol.

I used some 1 1/2" w x 3/4" thick birch hardwood from Home Depot for the edges. But really you can use anything that covers the raw edge of the plywood. I used this for durability.
Once I sandwiched the two pieces of plywood together, I just cut the birch pieces to length, glued and nailed them to the front and top of the plywood. I have a power miter saw and nail gun but it can be done with a hand saw and hammer and nails.

The partition in question should not be attached to the exterior slideout wall. The manufacturer uses a "slip" connection for a reason. The wall and floor of the slideout flex independent of one another during deployment and retraction.
That "slip" connection provides lateral support (fore and aft) but not vertical support.
By tieing the floor to the wall with a full length "L" bracket, this will cause unnecessary stress on the exterior wall, and quite possibly cause some new binding during deploy and retract.
For those who have a super slide, watch this "slip" channel during deployment. You will see significant movement.
Basically, the slide is only structurally supported in the fully deployed or fully retracted position. By screwing that partion to the wall, this connection will attempt to carry the load. The 1.5" wall at the midpoint of a 14 foot super slide in not built to carry that load.

CT you're absolutely right. In my original post I didn't say to screw the L bracket to the partition nor did I clarify not to. The partition moves within the two L brackets as the slide is extended and retracted; however, when the slide is in the open position, the partition stays locked in place against the exterior wall and creates a much stronger support for the dinette bench.
