Replacing Halogen Ceiling Lights with LEDs

After Fulltiming in our Pinnacle for a little over 2 months now, we have had 5 of the 28 Halogen "Puck" Lights in the Ceiling blow.
We bought a few LEDs to replace the Halogens and to see how we liked them.
They run much cooler, use much less power and seem to work great.
They do put out a whiter light but light output level is fine.
You can get replacements with different counts of LED Chips on them for use in different areas.
We bought some of the LEDs with fewer chips for the undercounter lights and accent lighting, and more chips for the ceiling lights to get the same light output as the Halogens we are replacing.
We are in our final phase replacing all of our Halogens with LEDs, the last 12 LEDs will arrive this week.

The led light is a little different but you will get used to them. I like the idea of the lamps running cooler, just seems safer.

I am about 1/2 done on mine... I went with the bright white.... but at 17-25$ ea it gets expensive....

Are the ones you are using approved for use on dimmers? My ceiling lights are all on dimmers.

Below are the LED lights I am using, they appear to be good quality and work great.
The ones I ordered are "Warm White", they put out a very white light but do not have the "Blueish" Color some of the the cool white bulbs have.

I put the 20 Watt LEDs in the smaller undercabinet light fixtures in the kitchen and undercablnet light fixtures in the living area.
I put the 25 Watt LEDs in the larger ceiling fixtures.

The seller has Free shipping from Hong Kong, it takes about 3 weeks to arrive but shipper provides international tracking number within a day after purchase that you can track on the USPS site.

I do not believe they are dimmable, the Pinnacle does not have dimmer switches, guess that was a cost cutting measure when changing from the Designer to the Pinnacle.

Those are no where near as bright as the ones I have.. yes way cheaper but I want to be able to read under them....

I have a general question regarding changing to LED and sorry if I have missed the answer in other threads/posts.

When changing to LED, do you just change the existing bulb to a LED that matches up with you existing fixture or are you completely removing the fixture and installing a whole new LED fixture bulb assembly?

I've seen where you can do it either way. Obviously a complete assembly is more expensive than just changing out the guts. Without knowing what type of lights you have, I couldn't say. In my case, Command Electronics sells replacement guts or complete assemblies for the lights in my 22FB.

Quahog, thanks for the info. I'm going to wait until my unit is out of warrenty before making any major changes to the lights I think. That gives me another year to research and see what others are doing, likes/dislikes etc

Hopefully the prices will come down also. That's all that is stopping me. Not to cost effective unless I was a boon docker.

That sounds like a smart plan to me. I ordered one of the upgrade kits from Command Electronics also to compare against the cheaper replacement to see how they compare. Then I will decide on which way to go.

Some of the halogen lights were just too bright, like under the cabinets, glad we went with 20 Watt LEDs in those fixtures that gives us a little lower light output in some places.
Guess that is why the Designer had Dimmers for the Halogen lights.

Over our Theater Seating unit in a cabinet we have 3 of the 25 Watt Puck lights and it is like daylight and yes we read quite a bit under ours, they are plenty bright for us.
We could have gone with the 30 Watt LEDs but they would be overkill for us.

Just have to try different ones to find what works for your style, needs and application, we are very happy with ours.

The lights we bought fit the current Puck Type G4 fixture, just unplug the Halogen bulb and plug in the LED bulb in.

Been boon docking since 1990 - and never had a problem with the halogen lights - thats what a Honda generator is for - but can still go 2 days/nights on the batteries with a some common sense applied.

I have 36 LED replacement "bulbs" in all of my light fixtures. In the six double light fixtures I only have one LED bulb installed. They give plenty of light. I had installed LED bulbs in my former PU about 8 years ago. The newer bulbs are much better. They disperse the light, so that you don't have LED "spot lights". I paid $18 each at the Hershey, PA RV show.

We lived in our new Jayco 31FK for 3 months during this past summer and didn't use the interior lights very often, still over half of the interior bulbs burned out. We complained to Jayco and they sent some replacements. Can the puck fixtures be modified or are you replacing the whole fixture. Jayco had an explanation of careless handling during installation causing damage to the bulbs. Funny it's happening to so many of us. We're ready to replace ours.

I replaced the bulbs with G4 LED puck style. The fixtures are fine as they are. There are many versions made of the replacement bulbs with ratings, color and overall quality so I bought one or two first then confirmed what I wanted and ordered all of them. They range from $1.50-$30.00+ each depending on your choice.
The halogen bulbs cannot be touched by your skin. The oils from your fingerprints will make the bulb heat up and eventually fail which is what Jayco is referring to as poor handling most likely.
