rock guard / nose armor?

Had an unfortunate run in with a "road gator" (tractor trailer tread) on my way to Florida a couple weeks back. The lowest panel on the camper's nose was dented in and scuffed as a result. The newer campers have diamond plate rock guards up front but my older TT only has the thin aluminum panel. Any idea how easy and expensive it would be to upgrade the panel?? We got lucky, damage didn't protrude into the camper at all and despite nailing a front stabilizer and scuffing up the side (right at the sewer connection and valves) upon it's exit, the tread did no damage to any other part of the TT.

You should be able to buy the medal at a parts house or place that sells steel. Just measure, get some stainless screws and silicone to seal the screws.

3pillons A good sheet metal shop can supply & bend the new al diamond plate to conform to your tt if it is rounded. If it is flat you can do as clutch says. Larry

The diamond plate on my trailer is very thin and does not even feel like metal. And it was only a 64.00 option so I`m thinking it can`t be anything special. Perhaps you could order it from Jayco cut and ready to install on your trailer.

0.045" thick? That's less than 18 gauge! I think something between 3/16 - 1/4" would be more suitable for a nose guard.

Another option would be to tape it off and have some white spray in bed liner. I am thinking that metal would probably be less expensive.

I`m sure the main reason they use the thin stuff on these trailers is simply a matter of weight (and cost). 1/4" aluminum diamond plate would be kinda heavy. Tough, but heavy. Nowadays manufacturers like to keep their published weights low as possible so more tow vehicles can be considered as viable.
