RV Short Queen to Regular Queen Mod Challenge: Floor Heater Vent

Howdy,
We have a 2012 Jayco Eagle 308RETS travel trailer with an RV short queen mattress (75"x60") and plywood platform. We would like to modify the platform to accommodate a regular-sized queen mattress (80"x60"). The challenge is that there is a heater floor vent at the end of the bed, which is free and clear now but would be covered with an extended plywood platform to accommodate a regular-sized queen mattress. Has anybody done such a conversion successfully or anybody have any ideas as to how to address the heater floor vent challenge?
Thanks, Mike

Why can't you use angled supports instead of extending the box?

I ran into this on a travel trailer I had years ago. I got lucky and found a floor register that had vents which were all angled in one direction and it fit my existing register box. I just angled the vents facing away from the bed and there were zero issues.

With my trailer I just extended the plywood base 5 inches to accommodate the extra length and didn't change the support. I'm just careful about putting my weight (sitting) on the extension. But that's at the foot of the bed. I'm don't know how your bed is configured in your RV.

I have a furnace vent directly under the foot of the bed that would have been in the way of adding to the support structure.

I used a couple pieces of flat steel bar extending both sides of the support and added a longer piece of plywood. It's very solid. I have no problem sitting on the edge.
