So I decided to join the outdoor LED gang!!

After reading the very active thread about the LED lights outside on the awning or under the gutter/awning, I decided to join the ranks as well.
I installed my strip of LED's under the gutter/awning and ran my wires down the front awning pole along the TT behind the cover. I drilled a hole next to the wires that go in the trailer for the electric awning.

This is during the day after I finished installing the LED strip:

This is later in the evening with Green on the dimmest setting:

Looks awesome!!!! I have that exact trailer and have been thinking for a while about doing the same mod. I'm curious to know if you tapped into the TT 12v wiring system for power or did you use the standard 120vAC power supply?? Also, could you please tell me where placed the LED controller (did you permanently mount it inside somewhere) and the RF receiver for the remote??

TIA for any help you can offer.

Hi rtbreeves,

The front bracket bolted to the side of the TT for the awning has a cover that is simply pressure fit. The top half comes off and the bottom half is secured on the front part, but the back part comes out. I ran my wires down that bracket. The wires for the electric awning are in the same channel. I drilled a hole next to the awning wires and brought the LED wires in the same place the awning wires.

Right now I am using the 120v outlet in the front bedroom on the door side. I ran the power through the opening by the bed and simply plug it in the outlet.
The power supply and remote controller are permanently mounted in the front storage compartment under the nightstand next to the bed on the door side (below the same outlet in the bedroom).
As for the IR receiver, I have enough room to hang it outside the storage compartment door when needed and tuck it back inside when not in use.
The remote does not have the best range and I found you need to be about 5 - 7 feet from the IR receiver to work.

I put mine on the TT versus the awning tube because I wanted to use the lights anytime, not only when the awning is out.
I hope this helps you a little. Let me know if you have any questions. I would be happy to help.

Nice Job...

I am still using my ROPE LIGHTS from LOWES. They will probably last forever hehe. These are the 120VAC model and clips around my patio awning and is hidden by the railing. When we camp off the power grid I have a dedicated small 150WATT Inverter clipped into battery just for outside lights...

One of these days will go for something 12VDC LED and more permanent.

I had a chance to do a little more work on my LEDs this weekend, but did not accomplish everything I want to like connecting it to 12 volts. I did a few other modifcations to the TT over the weekend.

rtbreeves wanted some photos of how I mounted the power supply and controller:

The power supply is mounted under the stand next to the bed:

The controller is mounted in the lower corner (below the power supply):

Eventually I will tap into 12 volts, but it did not happen this weekend. I hope this helps you.

I really like that! We too have an Eagle and are in the market for awning lights. From the looks of it you don't have to take these down? I am wondering if you could let me know where you purchased the kit.

They are mounted on the side of the TT by double back tape that is already on the LED strip. I decided to remove that double back tape and use clear silicone. Others have mentioned automotive double back tape works as well.

I purchased the LED kit from Amazon. Here is the link:

Did I mention this is my FAVORITE thread in this forum?

So... just got my LED kit. I'll also mount to the gutter under the awning. I'm having trouble figuring what wires you ran down the side of your trailer. My IR/PS plugs right into the end of the strip. So did you get a 4-wire ribbon cable extension and run THAT down the awning channel?

I love your set up, OurJayco, and your pics of where you have the components mounted. I'm just trying to figure the best way to permanently mount the pieces inside, and have a removable cable or something outside that bridges from the LED strip to the PS inside my front storage hatch.

Thanks much!!
