Table Leg Kit Install

Howdy everybody. Love this forum, a lot of talent and problem solvers here.

I have purchased a table leg kit (2 vertical poles and 4 bases) for my 17' 23MRB dinning table to replace the overengineered knee busting, feet contorting built for vehicles to cross a river on contraption. I admire the design and engineering but as I have told many Engineers I have worked with over the years, build it, try it!!

Now my questions, mounting the bases to the slide out platform.

Cut out carpet or screw thru carpet?

Does anyone know the depth of the plywood platform so I can purchase the correct size screws without breaking thru and damaging the vinyl floor below?

Thanks all in advance.

Big Al

our first trip out. our pedestal table totally detached by the time we got home. It looks like there were 4 tiny screws holding the thing in. Can't tell you the exact size maybe 2 inches. We are bringing it to the dealer for repair.

Meister2, thanks for the reply and info, I think I will disassemble before traveling, hopefully this will prevent damage. I am thinking if I trimmed the carpet, Gorilla glued a plywood block to the existing floor I could use longer screws for better grip?? We will see, I tend to overengineer things.

Woodworker, I hope the storms did not affect you too badly yesterday, didn't look good on the news. TX is taking a beating lately. Bases mounted on top of carpet would look much nicer than trying to trim. Thanks for your reply.

Hey Big Al, Where did you purchase the table leg kit? Been thinking of doing the same. The crazy table contraption is a hot mess, as you mentioned, and drives me crazy every time I try to sit down.

Tumbler - Class A Customs thru Amazon, you can also order direct from them. However the set I wanted is out of stock.

Fellow RVers, I want a set of black bases and legs but am curious if anyone has purchased/have the plastic bases and if they hold up?

Thanks.

The bases on our two pedestal table are black, and appear to be a polymer material. The table always stays up, and hasn't loosened or moved in 8 years. There's a label on the metal posts with the brand 'Sur Fit' by ITC.

JFlightRisk - Thanks for the info, the situation I have is the table leg bases will mount to the floor of my slide out, the depth of the recessed areas below the bottom of base plate probably would prevent installation of this type.

I appreciate the time you expended checking for a manufacturer.

Enjoy all of your contributions to this forum.

Al, they have leg kits with lower surface mounts that look like duplicates of the uppers. The other unknown to me would be the length of the screws you'd be able to use. Just another thought.

Unless this becomes a tripping hazard.

J Flight Risk, good point, I was thinking of Gorilla Gluing an additional 1/4" or 3/8" plywood or hardwood base to the slide out floor to accommodate longer screws. Not a tripping hazard in our situation as when traveling the table is placed in bed position, when camped it is raised.

Thanks, Big Al
