Just bought 2019 Jay Flight 38bhds. I can’t stand the thermostat in campers. I am a HVAC technician, I cannot figure how to wire a residential thermostat to my unit. I only has 3 low voltage wires going to the stat. Typical residential systems have at least 4 low voltage wires to run heating and cooling. HELP!!!

Tongue in cheek comment: I suggest you contact a heating and AC tech!

I just know there is a way to do it, hopefully someone already has and will post it.

You can't do it . Well at least not without major rewiring. Everything is routed through a circuit board in the a/c. Learn to live with it or swap it for the older version which wires the same but is not the capacitive touch.

Most replace with a simple battery operated thermostat like
Honeywell TH1100DV1000 Pro-Digital 2-Wire Heat Only thermostat

I only need heat as my window AC is not connected to the house thermostat.

I know many others have ditched the mechanical thermostat and gone digital.

Try the search bar above and put in thermostat and your RV model. If that doesn't work, try Thermostat and check posts to drill down a bit.

You can also put in your thermostat model # to see if anyone else has worked with it.

The old school battery operated stats will not work in the trailers with a 3 wire com cable. There is a circuit board in the a/c that interprets the signal from the stat. So unless you swap wiring and add some relays it does not work.

Duh, Just remove the communicating board as these are not hi-efficiency ac's and put a fan relay & contactor on it.

Yup, it's that easy. Put a thread together then so I don't have to look at another thermostat post .

If it's a Coleman analog just switch it out with the Coleman digital. Night/day difference.

Also having problems with the Dometic CT thermostat on my 2019 Jayflight 31QBDS. Went completely wonky when I took the cover off, and put it back on. Now works sometimes, but AC will shut down periodically for a couple of seconds and come back on. Then is shuts AC down completely for awhile before coming back to life. Suspecting problem is with thermostat.

Would like to replace with analog Coleman thermostat. Any issues in doing that?

The Dometic 3 wire junkatrol tstat could be replaced by just removing the board & using old school wiring setup. Unless you have more than 3 wires you will lose 2 speed fan & ability to run fan unless compressor running if tstat controls heat also. Might have to add another stat for heat. He is supposedly an AC tech so he should be able to make it work

I replaced the analog Coleman Mach thermostat today with the digital version. It was an easy swap out, as both had the same 6 wire connections, and the color coding of the wire match.

Biggest difference now is NOT dealing with the multiple degree temperature swings from the analog thermostat. The digital turns on and off exactly at the set temp.... Nice...

Ditto, did same thing after buying our new at the time White Hawk. Don't understand why this ?? keeps coming up. Folks seem obsessed with installing a residential Tstat in their RV. Maybe you save a few bucks, but you'll spend more for lunch at McD's than you think you will save.

Rv's hvac systems are unique to RV's and their components also differ.

The Coleman swap does not apply to this. It is a dometic system . Dometic uses a 3 wire com cable which is basically a phone line. The Coleman still uses a standard 5 wire thermostat cable. You can do anything with a coleman fairly easily. The dometic requires a lot more skill and knowledge to swap. The Coleman will not interchange with dometic so we really don't care that you swapped your analog Coleman to a digital. It is irrelevant to the OP thread. Thank you

Just put in my new Coleman digital thermostat and it works fine. One problem? There is no light on the temp readout. You have to use a flashlight or something to see it at night??

Any thing wrong with using a Coleman-Mach digital thermostat in place of the analog one that's supplied with most trailers?

I did. Easy, wire for wire change and night and day difference in performance.

Now, if I digitally set the temperature at 72, the AC will come on at 73 and shut off at 71. Same goes for heat, except in reverse.

Lol. Tired of the thread? Well.... to continue it. I decided to pop the vent caps off my A/C to look at its wiring, looks like it has a control box, that if possible to bypass my work... I'm going to try to contact Dometic first about this updated cover they might have first, before rewiring my brand new trailer.
