Transit bar Opening

I like using the transit bars when going on longer trips. I think they reduce vibration, and I am convinced they cut down on cabin noise while driving.

The problem is, on the back slide of my Greyhawk, the space in the forward slide to put in the transit bar is really slim, at least it is slimmer than my arms.

So I scrape my arms against the moulding every time I try putting in the bar. (see picture) My arms are wider than the opening is.

Any suggestions? I thought about just cutting out about three inches of that moulding, about an inch in, but then I would have nasty hole.

Thoughts?
