Will it work?

Hi All,

I currently have this fan (pic below) in my RV, came with the RV and is completely useless. It is so loud I can't stand it!

Has anybody replaced one of these? I want to replace it with a fantastic fan. Would it fit? Plug n play? I don't want to have to do a ton of mods to make it fit.
Any advice is appreciated! I had a fantastic fan in my last TT and it was great!
Looks like it is 13.5"x13.5", that may be a problem.

Yep Swapped that crappy fan out of our 17 Eagle... Put a multispeed maxair fan in instead... So quiet
Had to swap out the maxxair cover as well
You will have to remove all the dicor and screws on the roof.
The holes are all the same 14"x14"
You will need self leveling and I myself used eternabond around it as well. Wrapped up on the edges so no chance of a leak.
If you put a maxxair fan cover over it make sure you get the right one
Only thing I messed up was I should have bought the one with the remote and autoopener... Better half cannot reach the controls on the fan....
The original couldn't move air and made such a racket.

Hengs Vortex is very popular. Price is good and moves a lot of air. Easy to swap out and fits the opening properly.
You won't regret switching the Jayco cheapo out with either brand.

X2 on the Hengs. I have one in my camper, 4 forward speeds and 2 reverse and pretty quiet. The Hengs should fit into your existing vent so no total removal of the vent needed. Installation is done inside.

Yep, I did this mod a few months ago. Had your same fan. It sucked. Well, no it didn't suck, that was the problem, lol. I replaced it with a MaxxAire 7500 smoke with remote. Pricey but well worth it. Very easy mod to pull out old and plug and play new. I did not use the new plastic trim piece, I used the old one and just had to trim each corner just a bit. If I can do it, anybody can, lol.

So I need a 14" x 14" right? Looking at the Hengs, is there one that comes with the roof cover? Not sure which one I need. I also need to look at some instructions.

You have an easy breeze which does not have a hinged top.. Its vents out each side... To replace it you need a complete.. Maxair or fantastic fan... The hengs are to replace the fan on a standard style not an easy breeze

So how difficult to do the complete deal?

So it took me about 3 hours total.
Read the install instructions for the new fan.
If you are unsure or unsteady on roof hire someone.

You will need:
Disposable gloves couple pairs
Paper towels and rags
Chunk of cardboard to set everything on up on roof
Screw drivers
Plastic putty knife
You can use metal but be very careful to not cut roof
Paint thinner or appropriate solvent
butyl sealant
self levelling caulking or eternabond
I'm a retired geek and a farm boy so the wiring and testing is second nature. I used self levelling dicor but ended up covering it with eternabond when I redid all the roof openings with eternabond.

I would test the fan unit before starting just to ensure it works.

Inside trailer remove fuse for the fan
Remove fan trim 4 screws and note its orientation. It may be cut at an angle to match roof. I reused the original trim with no issues or additional trimming.
Disconnect the two power wires to fan... Note which was connected to the fan + likely red wire on fan side... Connected with twist connector or scotch clips
Up o. Roof put your gloves on
Using plastic putty knife peel back the self leveling caulking. Need to take care not to cut the rubber roofing.
Self levelling is sticky gooey stuff
Clean off the top of the screws
Remove screws... The heads will be full of self levelling so dig it out with a drywall screw or small screwdriver....
Now using the plastic putty knife cut the self leveling on the flashing edge and lift the outside fan flashing carefully
Once you have it pulled up clean up the self levelling and the butyl sealant with a solvent. Paint thinner is fine.
Apply new butyl around the hole cutout
Being careful feed fan wires down hole as you lower new unit into place
Go back inside and center in the opening. I would connect the wiring and ensure the fan works
Now back on roof...
Screw down the fan flashing
Apply self leveling or eternabond.
Now back inside tuck wires up and out of way. Install trim with 4 screws. Note trim orientation
Smile your done. Have a beverage!

Hi Guys, I need more help with this....

All the fans I look at say 17" by other sizes. Is this the outside measurement?

My fan measures 13.5" x 13.5". What Max air will work for me??

Yours is a standard fan opening. Any of the MaxxAire fans will work. If it's a trailer you're gonna have for a while, it's worth it to spend a little more such as the MaxxAire 7500 remote controlled. It's all self contained, no need for another cover over it. Well worth the extra money.

Hengs for me all inside work easy peasy not the quietest but does move some air and certainly better than the stock laughable fan!

We have the exact same fan in our 28.5 RSTS and it is worthless and loud. Bought a good maxair, and was ready to install it and realized the inside shroud did not fit. As others noted, they trimmed the existing shroud which has rounded corners, somehow to make it fit. I "chickened out" on trimming the shroud (thinking it would splinter or crack) and gave up on the project. Kinda wish I had stuck it out.
