X17Z front storage mod
I know this has been done by several, but it is a really cool mod. A few notes though, if you opt to do this mod, be mindful of what you store in here. The X17Z tends to be very "tongue heavy", my first "ready to camp" CAT scale weigh showed 620lbs of TW! It really should be around 525 max(15% of 3500), it's very easy to go over that. All we have in here is a homemade ladder golf game, about 15lbs, it will also come in useful when camping. I was originally going to put a shelf in here, but opted to hold off on that since it works for our purpose as is. I did run some 1 x 3's to give a little more support to the front wall.
One more project done and one day closer to actually using this thing.

Nice to have access to that area. I have done it, but I lined it and placed a shelf at the seat level of the dinette seat level. We only store bedding in that hold. In my signature line click on “dinette Rebuild” to see the details.

I do like the shelf idea, I still may end up doing it.

This is a mod we would like to do - how is that panel at the bunk edge affixed? Glued or with fasteners? Is it difficult to remove?

It is stapled on, it's not to difficult to remove, just take your time. I also took a belt sander to each end of the shelf to shorten it just a hair, it was rubbing on the walls before.

If you remove the 4 or so screws that secure the white dust/bug cover from the bunk hinge area and the two screws that secure the black web straps that keep the mattress up while traveling you can lift the entire finished board that is shown hinged.

The one thing that I would recommend is cutting the top board same width as the bunk and not leaving it wall to wall, it is give you a larger opening. Larry
