Fall camping at it's finest

Taking in the fall colors, cooking fleishkekla on the the Blackstone, drinking a couple cold Leinenkugel's, hanging out with my lovely bride of 39 years....

After having several trips early in the season canceled we were able to get out for a couple of good trips in August and September.

The first two pics are from early August at Quail Creek State Park near St. George, Utah. Our youngest daughter came up from the Phoenix area for the week to camp with us.

The next three pics are from late September at Dinosaur National Monument where we camped at the main Green River campground. The panorama shot is of the Yampa Plateau from the overlook at the end of the Harpers Corner Road Scenic drive on the Colorado side of the monument.

The next two pics are from late September at Scout Mountain campground which is a primitive Forest Service campground south of Pocatello, ID in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. Spent a few days there after Dinosaur. We had company one morning as 3 young moose hung out around the back of the campsite. Out of ~30 campsites there were only 3 or 4 other campsites occupied the whole time we were there which was fabulous.

The last two pics are from Craters of the Moon National Monument in central Idaho. We spent part of a day there on the way home. I haven't been there since 2006 and the DW had never been.

Got a $130 ticket for camping overnight here... Gonna fight it, but even if I lose, man it was so worth it! Grand Teton national park. Spent all night listening to elk bugle, woken up by park rangers, once they left, we quietly tracked the elk and got to see the bull, up close, bugling to his cows. It was incredible. And the fall colors... Spectacular!!!

Just flipped through pics of 2020. Got nothing.

We've been out a couple times, but I didn't get any pics. Looking at all your pics makes me realize how little we've been out in the camper this year!

To be fair, this has been the year of problems with our rig. It's been in the shop A LOT this year, but we're almost done with that. And we purchased a boat, so that's been a focus for a few months. Got at least one more trip planned right now (driveway camping at my dad's place) and working on a second trip around Thanksgiving. So we'll see...

What was the issue with camping there?

So, long story short (I'm gonna make a separate post about this) we were in Grand Teton National Park. Apparently you can't camp anywhere except campgrounds in Grand Teton. I didn't know this, and saw a road that lead off the main highway. No- "no camping" signs or blockades, and as a dispersed camping couple, we took the road, and set up camp. We were more or less awoken by two park rangers determined to disarm us and write me a ticket...

Last time out for the season

Out at our favorite state park ending our wonderful season during my first year of retirement.

And we were all alone!

We took our very first camping trip in our new to us Kiwi a couple weeks ago, stayed at the KOA in Pigeon Forge. Had a great time, already reserved another weekend in December to check out the lights.

Great pictures everyone. We didn't get out at all this year, with work and the Covid junk. Hope to get out more next year.
