Camping pic

From this past weekend at Pirate Land CG..

Got the Jayco backed in and nice and leveled, hooked up to power, water, and sewer. Unloaded and set up the rest of the gear THEN realized I parked it 2" too close to the power ped and my awning arm would hit it so I could only open it 1/2 way

Doh! I have plenty of those Homer Simpson moments.
Don't think I have ever seen a campground with the power pedestal in the front though.

Last weekend we pulled in and I opened the slide. Wasn't until after fully out that I walked around the side of the trailer and realized I missed hitting the power and water pole by about a 1/2 inch! Lesson learned there!

I cut myself a stick of wood just to avoid that. A couple inches longer than the slide sticks out.

One time at Hoffmaster State Park I was a little too close to a tree for the slide out and I ended up moving the trailer over as well.

Depending on what awning you have, you could have disconnected the rear strut from the trailer and used it freestanding "carport style". That way you could have fully deployed the awning. Just remember to tie the awning down to the ground and put a stake through one of the holes in the foot.

I carry a pair of the small auger style screw-in earth anchors for tying down my awning.

The sites back up to each other so one side of the ped is for me and the other for the site behind me. I backed up too far (obviously) for the added room up front. the lots behind us stayed empty through our stay.

I've made that same clearance "boo-boo" with the slide out a number of times.

mcfarmall - glad to hear someone else is using those small 3-inch earth augers. I added an eyelet with large washers in the four corners of my OFF-ROAD POPUP just below the roof line and I run 1/2-inch ratchet web straps to to the ground. My big problem was with side to side sway of the POPUP when put up.

The earth augar is also another point to tie down the awning to as well.

They go in easy and leave no marks when removed. Adds alot of safety from sudden wind storms that come up.

Using the ratchet type web straps allows me to remove the straps in quick order if need be...

Now that is what I call thinking ahead! Also I like the remote slide controller! Cool ideas like this make reading this forum so worthwhile. You can pick up so many ideas from everyone's experience. Thanks to all posters!
And as far as I'm concerned, no question asked on here is a dumb question. We have all had these homer simpson moments. I still get a laugh out of me putting my awning out for the first time and not sloping it. You guessed it! Torrential downpour during the night. Went to open the door the next morning and the awning had stretched so bad it was sitting on the door when I tried to open it. Almost could not get out. Lesson learned!

I believe yours are all side by side. We stayed on Sea Beggars (934). In the Capt Kidd section your numbered lots are all in order and dont go odd/even like the section we stayed in. Enjoy your stay!

Your wife must be a lot nicer than mine. I would have been busy moving and re setting the trailer.

My old trailer had the manual awning, too. I almost always pulled the posts off the trailer and anchored them to the ground with a couple of landscape spikes. They fit perfectly through the holes in the post feet, and kept the posts well anchored even in some pretty gusty winds. I'd use my 6" level to plumb them before anchoring. I always thought it seemed like my "porch" had a more open feeling with the posts set up that way. Would also take care of that kind of "oops" moments.

If we were in a larger rig it would likely end up at the rear of the TT. We (or I) decided to park it within 5' of the the sewer dump so I didnt have to break out the larger hose and ramp/holder thingie.
