Jayco 17Z

The first outing for our Jayco 17Z. Beaverdam Campground, Douthat State Park, VA. A great park created by the CCC.

Great spot! BTW - how do you pronounce "Douthat"?

"Dow-thut" or Dow-th-at" would best describe how to pronounce it. We have different accents in Virginia and it varies depending on who you ask and where they are from!

What kind of gas mileage do you get with that particular van towing/not towing? (thanks for the pronunciation!)

The van is an E-350, V-10 with a 3.73 axle. It averages about 10mpg city and the best of 14 mpg hwy (running light).

Towing on this first trip through rolling terrain and hot temperatures, it seemed to average 10 mpg.

Years ago, if anyone had told me that I would own an Econoline van someday I would have told them they were crazy. But here is how it came to be:

A friend of mine bought it to tow a travel trailer. Later he decided to go the motorhome route and he offered me an exceptional deal on the van. I bought it because I was planning to go from a motorhome to a travel trailer. It took me four years before I actually did it!

The E-350 makes a great towing vehicle and provides a lot of space/storage for other stuff. Often these vans are overlooked as tow vehicles. Used examples ( usually off lease or rental units) can be found that offer a substantial savings over comparable used pickups trucks of equal towing capacity.
