Our First RV Trip!

Here's a couple pics of Kate (our 22fb) and Big Red (Truck ) at Annapolis River Campground in Bridgetown, NS. Yes, we named them :-) As for the Kayaks, Pungo & Breeze, they already had names when we got them

Kassie and Kramer (our Kids) are in the 2nd pic.

Nothing better than the maiden voyage! We haven't named our tt yet. Someone a few months back posted a decal they had designed and put on the back of their tt with the name they gave it. OUr truck has a name of Bullet, only because I had to have a moniker when registering my ford at the ford.com site

Yours and our trucks are the same body since 2009. We haven't bought the racks for the top not being sure what would work best. What rack do you have and how does it mount? Can you post a close up pic? Thanks!

I use J Brackets as well for carrying the Kayaks. They can go from $75 -$150 a pr. They all fit these bars.
I did look at using a box rack, but it was more $$ and The Kayaks would stick out over the end of the truck. Would have been too close to RV for my liking.
Now these are high, but I'm 6'4 so I don't have too much trouble getting the boats strapped in. Any shorter, I would need some kind of ladder to strap boats in.

You can get a cheaper set of Thule racks, I like the look of the Rapid/Aero bars. Your looking at around $500 for this system.

Thule 480R Rapid Traverse -
Thule Traverse Fit Kit 1521 -
Thule RB60 60 Inch Rapid Load Bars -
Thule 544 4-pack Lock Cores -

The Fairing is from my old Thule, it's a little on the small side but I like it.

For about $100. less. (this is for the square bars)

Thule 480 Traverse -
Thule Traverse Fit Kit 1521 -
Thule LB58 58 Inch Load Bars -
Thule 544 4-pack Lock Cores -

The Yakima bars (they are round) go for about $400. as well.

Yakima Q Towers -
Yakima Q122 Clip -
Yakima Q122 Clip -
Yakima 58 Inch Cross Bars -
Yakima 4 Pack SKS Cores -

From what I've been told, the Yakima are easier to take on and off your vehicle, but the Round bars are much noisier.

Hope this helps Any more questions ask away!

We still have yet to weigh the tv/tt set-up as we have changed stuff around for storage. Our kayaks add about 70 extra lbs. How much do your bars/etc add up to? We'd like to add 70+ lbs somehow to our tv when we go to weigh the tv alone just to see what happens to our payload and gvwr of truck.

I think once we get those current weights, it will help us decide if we can take the kayaks and bikes with us on trips. Thanks for the info!

Now, I know the two kayaks weigh about 50lbs each. The roof racks, weight about 35-40lbs.

I don't have a weight concern, but I do wonder
how having the boats on the truck affect mpg.
But I've learned that it is what is ;-)

I looked up the weight of my 10' yak and it is actually 44lbs. Don's 12' definitely is more. We're thinking we will finally get the tt weighed when we take off for a longer trip in June
