Our new tow vehical and our JayFlight

We got a new F-150 (with the 5.4L) a few months ago and went to San Onofre this past week. It towed the 20BH like a dream. At one point my wife had to tell me to slow down while passing some other RV's going up a steep grade of the 15. We got about 9.8 miles to the gallon, which is about par for the course no matter what we've pulled that trailer with (be it a Jeep GC, or a F350).

I love this truck! I get about 21 MPG when not towing.

Works great for what we have.

Very nice! We also get about 9.8 mpg while towing... wish it could be better! Our non-towing mpg is only about 14-15 (highway is hilly in our area, and of course city mileage otherwise)

JP nice setup! We have, pretty much, the same truck... get about 9 towing and 16.5 not towing. I would be pretty happy about that 21 your getting! Our tt is very close to yours, with the additional front bedroom being the only difference. We are very pleased with ours also.

I try to keep the RPM's right at 1500 which gets me great gas mileage. I love how the back seat area is flat and the way the rear seats folds up. It kept our two boxers off the seats and comfortably on the floor. It's a great truck and goes well with our TT.

Very nice set up! Nice looking truck and great floorplan in your Jay Flight. We looked at a 20BH but opted for the lighter Jay Feather. Good luck and safe travels.

I towed my 22FB a couple of weeks ago with the new Tundra 4.6L and got around 12 towing, 17 normal driving. I'm pretty happy with it. Surprisingly, the 22 Jay feather is 250 lb heavier than the Jay Flight. I started with a Toyota 4Runner witha 4L V-6 and made one trip with the trailer, got 9mpg struggling every mile of the way and traded it the next monday.

I got my Kayak racks put on--
I didnt want to spend the 500 bucks on a Yakima truck bed tower system-- so I bought a 150 dollar ladder rack-- welded two pieces of pipe onto the side of each bracket-- and got some "J" bolts. The "J" bolts run through the pipe and down along side the truck's rail-- the J part hooks under the rail and then I cranked a bolt down to tighten the brackets down. The bar at the top of the rack puts more pressure against the brackets at the bottom. They aren't going anywhere and I didn't have drill holes in the truck. To top it off takes me about 5 minutes to remove it!

Then I just installed my old Yakimal Hullyrollers and Mako Kayak saddles via stainless steel hose clamps.

So far a total of about 200 bucks I got a nice solid kayak rack.

Neat idea JPBeck... could you post the above info in it's own thread in the Mods Forum? It may be easier for someone looking for kayak racks if it was in it's own thread. BTW, nice job on the rack!
