12 volts normal or not

Ok , Im connected to shore power, my jayflight runs on 50 amps my battery is disconnected, should I get 12 volts from the converter to supply 12 volts equipement ?

The way it is now only 120 v is available .

Am I wrong to think that the 12volts come from the converter when connected to shore power battery or not onboard ?

Your power panel has a converter / battery charger. It supplies 12 volt when plugged into electric outlet to run all the 12 volt items (lights, Fridge igniter, etc. ) It also will recharge the battery if it is below max.

When there is no shore power (110 volts) then the battery supplies the 12 volt power to the lights, etc.

If there is no battery or it is not connected to the system or dead, the lights will not work unless the RV is plugged in.

So I have a problem then because with my battery disconnected and the trailer connected to the house it looks like I have no 12volts from the converter, light dont work , inside or outside .... I dont even hear a fan running .... its a 50 amps panel its maybe different than my previous trailer hence no noise from a fan, that I dont know

Have you checked the breakers and 12 volt fuze's ?

Open the front and look at all the breakers, then each fuse. If a lot are blown you may have a short somewhere. Reset them and see if they blow again. If they do then you you have a problem short.

Based on your comments, maybe get some help from a dealer or friend.

It could also be a totally blown panel.

Thats what I will do tomorrow, but since all is good with the shore power and the battery connected I really dont think its a fuese but Ill look anyway. I ve also looked at a few place on the internet and apparently some converter needs a battery to supply the 12 volts even on shore power so its maybe my case ?

Unfortunatly no documentations about the converter came with my documentation bundle... so I konw what Ill do tomorrow morning thanks for your help anyway its appreciated

Could it be that the converter is looking for battery voltage to determine how heavily to charge the battery... And if it doesn't see any battery voltage at all, it just shuts off. It would be a safety feature, protecting itself in case the battery or wiring is shorted out.

Possible, since I've read at a few places since yesterday that some converter absolutely needs a battery to supply 12 volts...

A couple of possibilities at play here. One is that some systems require a battery in place to complete the circuit for the converter to supply power to the twelve volt systems.
Two, is sometimes when people connect or disconnect a battery, they don't realize and hook things up wrong or they accidentally short one of the connections. This may not have blown the fuse at the battery or a fuse on the inside electrical panel, but it could have blown a fuse located on the converter itself.
It is a common misconception that the electrical breaker and fuse panel are the converter. Usually the converter is mounted to the floor behind the electrical breaker/fuse panel. Many converters have fuses in/on them. If they blow, you may still have power to all the 110/120V systems but none of the 12 volt systems will work.

I agree...

Many of the newer power converters use "Switching power supplies" and are set to sense a battery connection first - before it will apply charging voltage/current. Without the battery connected, it will not supply 12v charging and will not power the lights/appliances in the RV.

The Progressive Dynamics units in lots of Jayco's also have a set of "reverse polarity fuses" that are designed to blow if the battery is connected backwards.

So in conclusion all is normal , thats how my trailer should be , thanks to all of you guys . One more question for you, my previous trailer had a EFCO converter and I wonder if Progressive Dynamics can be seen as an upgrade from EFCO or not ?

Update

Despite what I have read, I decided to send an email to Progressive Dynamics to get their view. They said that I should have 12 v power with or without a battery while I am on shore power. They send me a troubleshooting guide fairly easy to follow ,,, 5 mn later all is good and works like its supposed to , so it looks to me that a fuse wasnt pushed in completely since they were all (3 on that circuit ) testing good with the ohmeter . Which one wasnt pushed in ? no clue but I dont care all is good.... BTW super quick answer and help from Progressive Dynamics ...
