195rb tires

Has anyone replaced original ST205/75R14 load range C tires with ST215/75R14 load range D tires on their 195rb Jay Flight? Wondering about wheel well clearance, etc. It looks like the load range D tires are an inch taller and an inch wider.

I am going to do it in the spring. Called Jayco to ask if wheels were rated for 65 pounds but they would not answer. Could not find printing on inside showing recommended max PSI.

I upgraded tires on my old RV that had about the same or less space to 15s from 14s and had no problem with space.

I will probably stay with 14s but go up to D for the load and speed rating of the Goodyear Endurance tires vs. the Raineers. I will just spend the money and get new wheels. The old wheels and tires go on Craigslist for a few bucks. Someone will use them and it will give me $20 or so each to apply to the new tires and wheels.

We had a blowout in Northern Alberta. Not much choice but we scuttled the existing Rainer for Carlisle rated at 130 kph
We are getting some 10 percent better mileage and better handling than before. Now we have 10000 miles on the Carlisles going all the way to Alaska and touring all the state including gravel byways and returning to the East Coast

The white 8 hole Dexstar steel wheels are good for 2150 lbs. and 65 psi

I switched out the ST205/75R14 load range C tires on our Feather 7 18RBM with Goodyear Endurance 215/75R14 load range D and have plenty of clearance.

A little more than a 1/2" in diameter https://tiresize.com/calculator/

Best,
Steve

I'm in the process of getting a 195rb the dealer has on order assigned to me. It hasn't been built yet, but they expect it to come in with ST205/75R14 tires rated at 1750 lbs at 50 psi. That would be 3,500 lbs total. Yet, the trailer has a GVWR of 3,750. When I questioned this, I got an answer that sort of made sense, but in any case, the factory tires are maxed out as far as weight.

I was looking at etrailer's Contender LR D tires mounted on a steel rim for $120.03 (free shipping). They are rated at 2,200 lbs at 65 psi.

I bet the dealer told you that the tongue weight was 15% so the tires were just fine?

I'm an engineer type and my thought is the tongue weight is your margin of safety.

Steve

That's exactly what the dealer said, and I know that's true about needing 12-15% of the trailer's weight on the hitch. So, maybe 3,200 lbs on the trailer tires with a 300 lb safety margin. Still seems too close for comfort. Not much margin for a tire that's a little low or maybe a bit too much weight in the rear, etc.

I think you have the option to go up to Goodyear Marathons but I don't know if you can get d rateds.

If you have to order tires, I like the Goodyear Endurance best but I think the Kenda Karrier comes in second with tons of good reviews $126 at Etrailer on a wheel, free delivery.
D rateds get you up to 4,000 pounds capacity when new which gives you a lot of leeway as the tire degrades. The C's on the 195RB have no margin from day one which is why next spring they are bye bye.
