2006 Jayco 26L - Lift with subframe or larger wheels?

Jayco 26L Jayfeather. Standard wheels are 13" with 175/80R13. Has the Norcal mounting brackets, so there is not standard lift kit available.

Black water dump out is 6-7" above ground.

Options include:

1. Local trailer shop weld in subframe and weld axles $900. This would yield a 4" lift and I could put in more standard 205/75R14 wheels and tires for another inch. I need new tires anyway... $400.

2. Start with the 205/80R14 wheels and tires and pick up one inch lift to see how that goes before making bigger investment.

I cannot find any info confirming 205/75R14 will fit my TT, unless it had the factory lift kit..which mine does not.

If I have 2-3" of clearance between tire and wheel well with the trailer at rest, so 14s would appear possible....but no way to know how they will respond on the road to axle movement.

Any input? Thanks!

Local trailer shop hands down.

I just purchased a 2018 Jay Flight 195RB. It had hardly any ground clearance.

We took it to a trailer shop and replaced the 3,500 lbs axle with a 5,200 with new straps and bolts. We also had them "flip" the axle and put 15" wheels with load rating 'E' tires.

It's important to us to be able to go off road a bit and not bottom out our tanks or snap our drain cap off.

We are well happy with it
