29n remodel

We have a 29n we bought new in 06. Originally we bought this trailer for weekend and summer trips but now we stay in it for the full winter as snow birds.

The biggest issue I we had was the lack of counter space in the galley, and limited storage. We never used the dinnette and it always felt like it was wasted space, uncomfortable and just kind of a waste.

Second of concern was a growing soft spot in the floor in front of the galley(common I guess to this model) which after numerous inquires here offered little or no feedback as to a repair method.

So we opted to remove the enite dinnette, reinforce the floor and add more storage and counter space.

First after removing dinnette( a feat that took all of about 30 minutes) I cut out the linolenum and then installed a 2 3' x 4' 1/4" diamond plate aluminum sheets over the soft spot. Theese sheet were fastened to the exsisting floor and screwed to the crossbraces. The sheets span the distance between the frame memebers.

We then installed pergo laminate floor through out the trailer..
New cabinets were installed in the former dinnette area a base cabinet was installed on the wall by the bathroom which adds two drawers anda large storage area underneath. It also added a 48" x 24" counter. a 32" cabinet was added under the window over the wheel well. This cabinet is topped with a counter just below the window. On side behind the entertainment stand a desk/work space was added with storge underneath and a pullout shelf for computer use or DWs craft work.

The new floor allows the slide to function normally and the entire floor is much sturdier. The entire remodel added about 150 pounds to the dry weight but make the RV feeler much bigger. Plus it was definetely cheaper than a new !!!

By the way....very nice job!!! I took off the left door under the sink and made up 2 drawers and installed, the upper is not deep dou to the location of the sink and drain but holds a silverware tray, the lower drawer is as deep as the cabinet and holds all the wash cloths and towels and all the kitchen utensils, I wish I had open drawer pics to share. This mod added a lot of valuable storage space and still have a dinette.
Happy Camping....come on spring!!!

Great mod! I like what you did there. The 29n is identical to the 28u with the exception of having a second door the 28u doesn't have. The tv on the 28u is up on the wall and the tv stand has a cupboard in its place with more counter top and two free standing stools. The design works for now but I can see doing something similar down the road. I have also noticed a weak spot in the floor. Amazing jayco still builds this design with the floor having the same problem year after year. We do love the trailer aside from that. Happy camping.

Very nice mod, Mark. I have a real lack of drawers (none) in my 25z. I may have to look at this possibility.

29n remodel

we just purchased a used 29N and are remodeling it. We are going to beef up the floor like you did, nice job! Any way you can post pics of the cabinet/counter you put above the wheel well? Sounds perfect for that spot.
