anyone have a jayco ultralite 197?

How do you like it? Any problems? We are picking ours up in June in Iowa & heading out on a 10 day trip. We have never pulled a travel trailer before & are a little nervous. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

We have a 2009 197. We love it! It's easy to pull, easy to back up and is laid out pretty well for this size of trailer. I think you'll enjoy it!

We are towing our 197 with a 2011 Toyota Tacoma 4wd w/tow package. Rated to tow 6500 lbs.

you should barely know its behind your TV. That first tow always put you on pins and needles but you will get comfortable as you go down the road and get use to turning, truck passing etc... Have fun on your trip!!

AZ Campers-- Don't forget sway control, looks like an inexpensive friction type will do the job. Thats what I use for our 19H Larry

Yes, the friction sway bar works just fine on the 197. That's what we use and havent had a problem.

no extension mirrors needed

dont know about the 19 but our 184 is only 7 ft. wide, 1 ft. narrower than most tt so standard mirrors work fine.

Riverburn,

I know that is good advice, but we are traveling from AZ to IA to pick it up & then heading to South Dakota for a week. Long way from home. Hopefully, all will go well.

Ordered the 2013 Jayco 197 on July 14th. I picked it up August 22nd. We went to a local campground this weekend to check things out. This camper is outstanding. There were some minor issues with it, I think it's a quality assurance issue at the factory. I was able to solve these issues myself. My dealer is getting a list of these issues so they can call the factory and address them. On a scale of 1-10, I'd put a 10 on it for this class of camper. We added all the available options and it was worth it.

Towing with a 2003 silverado 1/2 ton 6 cylinder. No problems.

Congratulations! Last Spring I bought a 2008 197. Very nifty little trailer. This summer, my wife and I stopped in at Virden,MB to see if they had a 197 with a slide-out. They had a 2012 and were quite anxious to have ours, so we took the 2012 home. The slide (or pull-out, or slide, or whatever they are called) makes a huge difference inside! I didn't even get both feet in and I decided we had to have this one. The 2008 was like new, and hadn't likely been towed anywhere. The 2012 is entirely different inside, aside from the pull-out.

So far, I haven't found any problems or defects. I am definitely going to make either doors or drawers under each side of the bench seats. The storage area is accessible from inside, but you have to take the seat cushions off.

All in all, Jayco has vastly improved the 197. I'm not sure if the pull-out is optional, or if all 197's have it now, but it it well worth the extra cost. I am looking forward to taking some little excursions after harvest. I am running a half million dollar combine (1 of 5), harvesting just over 20,000 acres.

Enjoy your 197!
