Battery charging issue

We have a new 2015 Jay Feather ultralight 23RLSW. The battery does not stay charged when connected to shore power and when the battery dies, everything shuts off. Am I overlooking something or possibly a bad converter?

How are you charging the battery? If not using the converter.


You definitely have something seriously wrong since the battery is not supposed to be powering anything when the RV is on shore power.

Check to insure that your converter is connected to the battery. In my Skylark, there are two black wire connections to the positive terminal and one white wire to the negative. One of the two black wires charge the battery and the other provides power from the battery to the 12 volt circuit.

Your rig should have a converter that charges the battery. Since it is new and something is obviously not right, I would take it to the dealer and let them look at it under the warranty.

check all fuses and breakers in the panel use a meter to check fuses. Turn each breaker off then back on again, This will ensure that the breakers have been reset

Did you by chance pull the emergency breakaway pin from the plug? If so, that will constantly send 12V to apply the brakes. They are not meant to be used that way and will drain your battery in less than a day. I've seen that problem here several times by new TT owners.

That pin needs to be in the plug at all times. It is only meant to apply the brakes if/when the trailer comes unhitched while driving down the road, as a safety measure to stop the trailer ASAP.

Scoutr2 has a good suggestion. I spent a night out in a pasture where we often shoot. During the night, the cattle came to check out the trailer, and the cable must have snagged on a beast. Batteries on the trailer and one of the two in the old Sub were dead. Took me a while to figure it out. Luckily, I had remembered to use the cut-out on the Sub.
