Bigger Black Tank for 14RB??

I have the 2017 Jay Flight 14RB and we love it but our biggest complaint is the 9 gallon black tank. I was poking around on the Jayco site yesterday and was looking at the specs for the 2017 trailers again and noticed they now label it as a 19.9 gallon black tank! I wonder did they change it mid year and now I'm wondering if they did change it, can I order the bigger tank and have it installed in my 2017? I have an email into Jayco and will post up what they say for us 14RB'rs

I'm so confused

Well after a few emails and phone calls, I've gotten no resolution. I called Jayco and the lady who I spoke with told me that my trailer given my VIN# was the smaller 9 gallon tank...Bummer! Then today I finally got a email back from their customer service dept that said that based on my VIN# i have the larger 19.9 gallon tank...

Well, I guess the next step is to level the trailer and put a measured amount of water in the black tank and see what the gauge says...sigh.

My previous TT had a five (5) gallon black tank.

In 5 years of use, it got full only once.

9 Gallons is a whole lot of human waste. How many people are using the 145RB at a time? How many days until you get to a dump station?

Its not so much the human waste volume. Its how much water you mix with it. Most don't want to deal with feces stuck all over so they are liberal with water.
We go four days before dumping.( with that 9 gal tank). Yet on canoe trips out west where we have to pack everything out with a dry toilet of two gallons by day ten its not quite full.

For us use of the kitchen sink is the culprit.. The grey overflows( think its 21 gal) before the black is done..As the lights on the sensors are useless the overage of gray says( it shows up in the tub ) go dump everything.

The trailer is new to us and we are new to RVing. We've only taken the trailer out a few times so far, two of which where dry camping. The longer trip (3 days) we were about 3/4 full on the black tank which made us think we have the small tank. We may have been over zealous with the water in the black tank we are still getting use to how much we can use as not to run out of space. We do some extended trips a few times a year where we may be out for 5-6 days before coming back into a town, so we were concerned the 9 would not be enough and seeing that they now come with a 19.9 gallon we were bummed that we may have been stuck with the smaller tank even though we just bought the trailer. Thanks guys

if you are concerned about a full tank before you are ready to go to town take a tip from tent campers. A Luggable Loo https://www.rei.com/product/876179/r...ortable-toilet

and Wag Bags

https://www.rei.com/product/662978/c...-package-of-12

When not used weigh next to nothing.

Definitely have been down the bucket and wag bag path before. That's what we used before the trailer on the longer off grid trips i mentioned. I guess we were hoping those days would be behind us (no pun intended ) But, yes good to know we can use those as a back up if need be.

the bucket is something you might want to carry anyway.. We have been known to dispose of excess gray water in the woods that way if it is not a sensitive area or against the rules.

I have obtained a bucket for just such a situation.

Even if you found a larger tank that would fit, you may have difficulty finding a place to remove the old and install the new. Being waste most won't work on it unless it's sanitized before...and many won't do it no matter what.

I have the same tank size, I just bought a 15 gallon tote tank and bring it along when there is no sewer hook up. best 100$ I spent, no worries anymore!

thanks for that information. I thought that 19.9 was a misprint. our 14rb just rolled off the line February of 2017 , when did yours roll off the line? mine was the first 14rb on the lot to come with the good year tires also. if it also does have the 19.9 gallon black tank that would be a definite plus in my opinion.

To know the size of your tank might be as simple as checking the bottom. My grey and black tank sizes are stamped in underneath the tank.

Our bottom is sealed and I thought I would try taking it down to look, but after looking at the sort of crazy way it was put up there i decided against it. May have to try again.

Ours was ordered from the factory as well the end of last year, we picked it up at the end of December. no goodyears though...man I really wish I knew they were going to be rolling out these changes and new options before we ordered.
Did yours come with the Sani-flush option? Whats that all about?

I got a follow up email from Jayco after I told them I was getting conflicting info and he reiterated that he was confident that ours has the bigger tank, so maybe i don't need the upgrade. Still need to do a measured out test to put my mind at ease.

ours was not ordered with the sani-flush option and have no idea what that is. our black tank dump handle faces down towards the ground. I wonder if that has anything to do with the different size tank as our last 14rb had the black tank handle coming out perpendicular to the ground like most rvs.
we will find out soon enough if our black tank is the 19.9 or not . if it is it will make a world of difference. In the last 9 gallon tank we had I would pour a bucket of water in it before we went camping and it would be a quarter full already!!

after a 3 day trip I can report that we must have the bigger black tank(19.9 g)on our 145rb. we are quite liberal on water usage for the black tank and when we left it was a 3rd full. I usually pour a bucket of water in before we leave to slosh around and to help when we start using it at the campground. the bigger tank is a huge upgrade.
I did find out the shower head had no shut off feature though. I already had the oxygenics head for it , just had not swapped it yet. just did that yesterday so can now shut the water off while showering
