Bike storage/transport in Swift SLX
Any ideas from seasoned trailer folks on the best way to transport bikes? I looked into a hitch mount for the rear of the trailer, but apparently not available on the SLX.
Is the spare tire mount beefy enough to take a spare tire rack and a couple of bikes?
At this point, I'm thinking we may end up with a roof rack for our car, but I'm not jazzed about the prospect of shelling out more $$$.

By now you have probably come up with your own solution, but we purchased a bike rack that goes on the bumper of our camper. The attached photo will show the mount, however the actual bike rack was not put on the mount when this picture was taken. We slid the spare tire over in order to fit the bike rack (which holds up to 4 bikes) without hiding either of the tail lights.

Have you used it? and for how long? I have that hitch on my TT but have been hearing not to put the bikes on it as the bumper is only rated for 100 lbs and that it could rip the bumper right off? Did you do anything to reinforce the bumper?

I bought a hitch receiver from Curt Industries and haul my bikes in front of the truck. I have a 2005 Jayfeather 29Y with no rear bumper.

I too bought a Curt hitch for the front of my truck. It's also handy for other things than just a bike carrier.

if you're not talking a lot of bikes, your TV is a car; take the front tires off bikes and carry them inside of TT.

I too am looking for a way to transport about 3 bikes. I already have the rack that gets hooked to my receiver on my tow vehicle, but I kinda need that spot for the TT. Looking on the net and looking at the bumper, there's no way that I would feel comfortable with a bolt on for my rack. So i'm wondering if anyone has welded a 2" receiver to the center beam of their TT? Has anyone does this with theirs?

Hello,
I have a X213, 2011, and the previous owner had gotten two 2" receivers right below the bumper, and one receiver on the side for a Bbq holder he welded out. Will try to take and post pic later.

I went to a welder yesterday. The bumper of my TT is mostly just tach welded. He is going to finish welding all the joints and add a metal piece welded in the center from the bumper to the TT. He said when he's done I can hang anything I want off the bumper except another trailer! 4 bikes on a rack, no problem!

Please post pictures when completed. There are lots of us who want to carry bikes on the back, but have headed the warning on carrying them on an un-reinforced bumper. Also, if you don't mind sharing, what is the welding shop asking for that? I can do lots of things, but welding isn't one of them

I don't mind sharing at all... they are asking $95.00. I didn't think that was a bad price. My Brother works for Verizon and they use this shop all the time and he says they do good work. I will post pics when complete. It's getting done Tuesday morning while I wait. He didn't want me to leave the TT there so he's going to do it while I wait.

Project complete, and I will be taking the bikes on our next trip to upstate NY Thursday. The rear bumper was mostly tach welded on, so he welded all the joints fully and extended the i-beam to the bumper and welded. Should have no issues now.
Here are the pics!
