Boon docking question????

I have a 2020 White Hawk 24MBH. I have upgraded the battery to a Duracell 31 AGM battery. I have a 10amp battery charger to charge the AGM battery at my house while the trailer is stored. I also have a 2000w generator.

At night, the beach where we are boon docking there are quiet hours. So the battery will be running the trailer for the night.

1. During the day to recharge the battery, should I plug the 10amp battery charger straight into the generator and then to the battery? Or should I just plug in the 30 amp trailer plug into the generator and have the trailer charge the battery back up?

2. If the trailer does not charge or can't charge the battery fast enough during the day, Can I plug both the 30 amp and the 10a battery charger in the generator at the same time?

I would suspect that the converter in your rig has a much larger charging capacity than your 10 amp one. My Greyhawk's converter is a 60 amp model and does a good job of recharging.

I would not use both chargers together as I would think they might not work well. These days chargers are electronically controlled and sense the battery level so as to adjust their output. If there is another charger feeding the battery, it may screw with the charge rate of the bigger unit.

I use a 2200 watt Ryobi inverter generator to keep my batteries up before night time shutdown. Saves my big 4k unit which is much more expensive to have wear out. I just plug the 30 amp power cord into the little generator and am a happy camper.

I have encountered the night time quiet hours you mention. 90% of my camping is boondocking and have been doing it for 40 years.

FWIW, I charge my batteries with 2 chargers, daily.

I have two LIFPO4 Batteries: https://amzn.to/3aGzrth

And I charge them with my solar panels through this: https://amzn.to/2TTMMsg

On cloudy days, I turn my propane powered generator on: https://amzn.to/30TcnCZ

And then use this charger to charge the batteries on cloudy days or when tied into shore power: https://amzn.to/37tAhrh

So the two chargers work together. Whichever is feeding the higher voltage is going to charge the battery. The BMS (Battery Management System) inside the battery is going to control the resistance the chargers are going to be able to work against getting their current to the chemistry so to speak.

The only thing I would be concerned about is charge rate in your setup. I would definitely get an amp meter and figure out how much current your converter is putting out. In an AGM battery, if you want it to last a long time, I would not charge it more than 1/3 C. Which might be like say 30 amps. Also, since you are using lead acid, I always recommend an automatic disconnect. If you discharge that battery less than 12.2 volts even one time, the process has begun for your battery to become nearly worthless. It will lose something like 50% of it's capactiy the first time you discharge it less than half. Something like this installed will prevent that from happening: https://amzn.to/2TVVztR

If you have more than 100 amp battery you can charge at something like 40 amps, it's not ideal, but you can do it (even 2 chargers at once).

Probably not. The tow vehicle connection is very low amp and the water pump is a fairly high draw on the 12V system.

I have turned my car around and used jumper cables (engine off, house battery disconnect) to run my trailer for a few hours. Not really good for the car battery, but beats shivering or permanently damaging the house battery which cost a lot more.

I installed this on my pop up, when the generator was running, I’d plug it in and let it run through its cycles. I have solar on my 5er now so it’s not needed. I also have a 2 bank (8 amp) permanently installed on my TV. It keeps the batteries healthy and fully charged if I don’t use it for a while. I used the NOCO plug to make plugging the charger easy without having to open the battery compartment. I have 2 of them on my truck, 1 for the heater block the other for the NOCO charger.
