Bug Free light for Outside Kitchen

We have a 2011 Jayco 29L with an outside kitchen and we do all of our cooking outside. Works great, except at night when the flying bugs attack. Jayco installed a regular light rather than an amber light. Does anyone else have this problem?

We have a amber light outside of our door that also attracts bugs. Our cat loves it.

We use a product recommended by the insect exterminator service we use for our home.
HOT SHOT; No-Pest Strip. We hang the strip just outside our TT door and have had mixed results.

There are different strengths and versions of this. Home exterminators use the stronger ones. I believe you can buy them at Home Depot.

Replacement amber lens is less than $5.00

I replaced 3 "daylight" CFL bulbs on my garage/front porch with Cree "warm white" 60 watt equivalent LED bulbs and haven't seen a bug buzzing around any of the fixtures all summer which is a huge change from last year.

Bugs are attracted to blue (think moonlight) light, UV radiation and heat sources... An incandescent bulb behind an amber lens is a good choice but if you have a hard time seeing without the benefit of a fuller spectrum light (for cooking in particular) you might try putting a "warm white" LED array in the fixture with the existing clear/frosted lens and see how it does.

This is a cheap option I'd suggest trying, a bit brighter than the standard 921 bulb at 500 lumens in the 3000-3500k color spectrum while running cooler and more energy efficiently:

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I will try and see which idea works best.

Noticed a similar problem with the LED awning strip on our new White Hawk. We take the dogs out before bedding down for the night and end up with a rush of bugs if the awning lite has been on. After a couple nites we remembered to turn it off for a while and back on when we took the dogs out so we can see the steps. Anyone have ideas for dealing with the LED strip??

I use the LED strip on blue and it doesn't seem to draw bugs bad.
You can also set it on amber and dim it sightly.

I never use white. My porch light has a white lense. Not sure if installed by Jayco or PO, but either way I've never seen a white porch light
on a TT.

Daylight/cool/"white" LED's tend to produce light with a lot of blue which will attract bugs. Warm white (2700-3500k) LED's or variable color light strips that can be manually changed to a more yellow/orange should make the lights less interesting to insects.
