Bunk canvas

The plastic strip that holds the bunk canvas in place is cracked around a few of the screws in one of the corners, so the cavas is pulling away, causing a gap that allows water in. Is that plastic strip pre-manufactured on the canvas? It seems silly to have to replace the entire canvas just for one small spot. The canvas itself is in good shape. Thought I could just secure it back up with a few screws and some sealant, but the plastic is too damaged in that one area for the screws to hold. Any ideas?

No, I’m talking about the clear plastic strip connected to the canvas that fits into that track. I’ll upload some pics in a little while.

Welcome aboard.

Assuming your talking about an htt an not a PU. What year and model do you have?

It is a common issue. The plastic is integrated into the canvas, and cannot be replaced.

Many people including myself, added additional screws and washers. Predrill for the screws. DON'T over tightened when you install them, so not to add any additional stresses on that plastic or it will crack more.

X2 on the inside fix & I also had problems on the outside as well with water intrusion. What I used was 2” White Gorilla Tape on the outside to cover the that rib (very neatly) and stick it to the underside of that opening. You’ll never notice it if you’re neat and you should get 3 years before you have to replace that tape strip.
I start the tape at the beginning of the radius on say the left hand side, go up & over and finish on the opposite side

Yes, this is exactly what I’m talking about. It looks like the previous owners tried screwing it back up like that, but it failed again over time. Problem now is, the plastic is so destroyed, there’s really nothing left to screw through. I thought about going through the canvas (vinyl), but I’m afraid that’ll just open up another can of worms down the line.

I did the repair twice. First time just minial additional fasteners and no washers, over tightened the screws and the plastic cracked. Second repair predrilled, more fasteners, washers that acted like a clamp, and tightened just enough to hold, but no extra. Been holding for many years now.

Only other option I am aware people have done is replacement canvas.

Thanks, everyone. I used screws and washers to secure the canvas back up and sealed with silicone. I believe it should be good. I appreciate the help
