Great! Let me know if you need any measurements or a better picture...Two tips: Remove the plastic "top-cap" from the trim when you notch out for your L brackets. Then, put the trim over the bracket to help hide them. (dont cut the plastic trim). Also, don't forget to put the bottom L brackets under the plywood lid to the storage area, and carve out the framing a bit so the lid will close flat. I'm sure Grandpa has it all under control! Cheers!

Jammer,

Can you provide some more dimensions? Width of the ladder, and from floor up where you placed the rungs. I really like what you did and want to make one too.

Thanks!

Hello! Here are some dimensions:

Total Height = 51 1/4" (including 1/4" felt pads on the feet)
Total Width = 10"
Rung Width = 7"
Sides = 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" square fir (labelled as 2x2 though...but it's not!)
Rungs = 1" Hardwood round dowel
First Rung = 21 1/4" from floor
Second Rung = 31 1/4" from floor
Third Rung = 41 1/4" from floor

Use a 1" forstner bit to drill your holes, can do 1" depth into each side. Very strong!
Also, round over your outside top corner.
Check your height. It may differ slightly from trailer to trailer. I kept the top flush with the top edge to help avoid any clothing snags or injuries.
All purchased from home depot in the trim/moulding section.

Hope this helps! Cheers! JMR

Thanks a ton! We are picking up out trailer at the end of the month, and this has been something that "bothered" me about this unit. NOW to get the dealer to order me a second curtain rod so I can have two curtains too.

Going to get supplies now... :-)

Here's mine. I too hated the no ladder thing. Since its mostly little ones going up and down I wanted it to stick up as high as the top of the mattress so its easliy located sliding down backwards and I put it on a small tilt to make it a little easier for little ones to climb. Two simple hooks from home depot with some heat shrink tubing holds it in place. Drilled some holes in the platform and dropped it in. Added some foam pads to the bottom to protect the floor. Dont know the exact dimensions but its 12" wide and the slide and cabinet doors clear it all enough for it not to be a problem.

Still not sure how best to post pictures, so I hope this works. Anyway, #1 shows the top brackets, notice the plastic strip as mentioned before. #2 is a lower bracket, has been shortened to length, and knotched in, plastic strip intact. #3, lower again. #4 Storage door closed flat #5 Upper brackets hidden #6 Same, upper #8 Rungs glued, nice fit due to forstener bit. #9 Finished product...

Hope these show up big this time, as I used a camera for these ones. Looks like you can click on them for larger images...Let me know if you need anything further! Cheers!

We have an Eagle 284BHS which is the same basic floor plan as the WhiteHawk 28DSBH. We got a ladder for our curved corner rear bunks that came with the camper. Since the rear bunks seem to be the same, maybe a ladder is something your dealer can get from Jayco??
