Bunk Ladder For 28DSBH

Has anyone put a ladder to get up to the second bed in the 28DSBH? I'm wondering if just getting a step stool is an option.

my brother and I are trying to figure this out too, but hard to do as we have not taken delivery on our trailers yet. I was thinking of building a ladder just big enough to put 1 foot on all the way to the right of the bunks between the lower and upper bunks. But without the trailer I am not sure if that idea will work. If you or anyone else comes up with something, I would love to hear what you've done. We we looked at the trailer at the show, I noticed the kids using the bathroom door knob for leverage. They definitely CAN NOT continue to do this when we get our trailers. The knob will not last.

I have a 184bh. My kids also use the bathroom door knob to jump into the top bunk. It has worked well so far, but this year I will be finding a more permanent solution. I have a friend that made a decent looking ladder out of 2x4s, but I was thinking about doing something a little more refined ut of metal. Something that I could remove, paint to match, wouldn't have to make a permanent modification to the camper.

I would love to see some pics!

The quick fix for us was to purchase a folding 3 step ladder. It is a mild pita but does the trick. I also use the ladder when I need to clean the top of the slide off before we bring it in. Bought it at Costco for under $20. Definitley not as nice as a matching wooden ladder though.

This is the same ladder I bought for my bunkroom. As you can see in the photo, I modified it by cutting a couple inches off the bottom and built a landing that slips over the top bunk rail. Easy to take down and store when not needed and sure helps the grandkids bunk up at night.

Bunk bed ladder are pretty inexpensive to buy or make one out of finished wood.

There isn't really a large area to attach a ladder to. You have a bathroom door in the left of the picture and on the right there is a large pantry door. To make matters worse, the opening of the bunk area where you would actually place a ladder is curved. It' snot your standard flat bunk where attaching a ladder is easy.

We bought a wooden one from Amazon. I cant get the link to work. Just go one Amazon.com and search for bunk ladder. It comes unassembled and you can stain to match!

Mine is similar to the picture above, I was thinking of attaching small steps similar to rock climbing lugs along the edge of the wall. This would give the kids some assistance to climb, but not a ladder that is in the way.

this idea is still stuck in the think tank...

I was thinking the same thing but something that retracts up. This is one thing I found but not exactly what Im looking for. I would like it more of a straight peg.

Well, I had some scrap 2x4's laying around so I just made a very basic prototype. I think it's the perfect width for the area it's in. I might try doing some kind of angled ladder instead if the strictly vertical one. Who knows. Whatever the case, it has to be removable because the edge of the bed provides a great extra seat.

We have a Jay Feather 228 Bunkhouse and purchased a bunk ladder at camping world that you actually can cut and adjust. Works great.

We just took delivery of our 28 DSBH and my son use the door knob too. That was stopped right away.

We took a 60" ladder from the parts dept. shelve to the coach to see, and 60" is too tall!

Measuring, with a slight angel, you need about a 53"-54" long ladder. There is also no lip at the top edge to secure the ladder from sliding around.

We are going to get a 3-step step stool for the short term. Hopefully, my 7yr old will grow a bit taller over the summer and he'll have less problems, but then there's the 4yr old too. :-)

Hello all,
Just picked up our 28DSBH last Wednesday, and had a trip scheduled for Friday, so I had to find a solution quickly. I made a basic 3 step ladder from two 1 1/2" square risers, with 1" round doweling for rungs, and it worked out great. The kids just needed a foothold for the way down really, so it didn't need to be anything fancy. This design allows for the unobstructed use of the cupboard as well as the slide out. It is attached using "L" brackets at the top and bottom bunk, but not into the wall, so there will be no noticeable holes if we ever want to remove it. The only thing I noticed after the fact was that I should have notched out a bit for the outlet. I will probably do that when I get a chance...The whole thing including varnish cost less than $30 from Home Depot...It works for us, maybe it will for you too! Cheers!
