Burnt 30amps plug

1 prong overheated and started to melt on the male connector. I would like to replace it, however I wonder if the replacement plug will fit in the little storage door that all of us have on the side of the RV .Any particular model to suggest ?

Thanks for your help

I would suggest getting an EMS. First figure out what caused it before just replacing the connector, the other connectors you find at home improvement stores should work. If yours is junk anyways, cut it off and bring it in.

If it's melted then it does need to be replaced; find the correct item and you're set. BUT chances are the female plug was the original culprit (loose/dirty contact) and will cause the new plug to melt once again. If this was in a campground there's not much you can do (other than report it) but if it happened at your home then it too needs to be replaced.

I had a campground plug that melted my EMS plug last year. Progressive Industries still repaired it, for FREE.

I had the same issue a few years back on a brand X trailer.
I replaced the plug with a Cooper brand.
It stowed as well as the original and never overheated.

Not sure of the model number.
Very much like that one though.

Homer,

You are correct, the one you picked out it too big. I replaced mine on my Octane with a Camco 55283 30 AMP Mini Replacement Male Plug with PowerGrip Handle.

The Camco plug will not fit into the OEM opening for storage.

The one Homer posted should work fine.

I've had to replace the male plugs on two of my MHs. I replaced the last one, dissected it to ascertain the problem, and determined that it had a bad crimp on the main power wire. Like mentioned above, the problem can also be overused/burnt campground connectors that are worn out. I replaced my plug with this one. http://www.amazon.com/Voltec-16-00-5...ilpage_o01_s00

Just be aware that you have to crimp the correct lug onto the wires. You can't just wrap the wire around the screw and tighten it down. So that would be a lug that fits a #10 wire and it's either a #8 or #10 screw. This connector is just about as small as they get and should fit into your hole.

This one will fit in the standard TT cord storage door. It's tight but it will fit.

Here is a picture link of the Camco 55283 fitting in the access hole, and you can also trim the handle off the back to make it fit easier. Be careful some of the others mentioned from Lowes are not weatherproof and that will also cause you problems.

Wow, I hope weatherproofing isn't a concern. The utility boxes I've seen at campgrounds have a cover over them. The outlets in those boxes are really not meant to be exposed to the weather and neither should the RV connector. Correct me if I'm wrong.

FYI.
The one I installed in 2013 is still in service.
A coworker has the TT now and stays in it over 200 nights a year.
