Check your bug screens

When we purchased our Skylark, we were advised to install bug screens on the vents for the water heater and the refrigerator, which we did.

Last night we had a really heavy rain storm with some pretty good wind. This morning as I was looking out at our yard from our back deck, I noticed a strip of metal on the concrete driveway next to the trailer. When I went down and checked it was one of the three screens I had put in the refrigerator vent panel. They were installed with small zip ties. The two zip ties holding that screen in place had failed allowing the screen to fall out. It was a good thing it happened in the driveway because if I had been going down the road I would have needed to buy another set of screens. I also replaced the zip ties on the other screens as well.

Interesting. I have the same screens. I never considered a failure of the zip tues. Maybe I'll add a few more to mine.

UV rays can be harsh on many types of plastic. Cheap zip ties are typically made of those kinds of plastics.

For uses where they sit in the sun, look for UV rated zip ties.

I ignored the zip ties and used bailing wire.
