draining water heater

Poll: Who drains their hot water heater tank after every use? Should you? and why? Let the debate begin.

I dont , but I think about it . We get our camper out about every other weekend , and after I hook up I let the hot water run a few minutes to drain the water heater of stale water . Kipper

We are the same as Kipper. We get ours out almost every other weekend.
I have not drained ours except when I winterize after our last camping weekend in October.
When we arrive at another location, we usually run the water (hot and cold) to all the lines cleared of air and to empty the "stale" water.
We do not have a filter system, but I can see where you may want to drain it if you have a filter system.

We generally do not use the campsite water for drinking. I am sure it may be OK, but we usually bring our water for drinking.

We just run water through the lines once we get to where we are going or possibly when we are packing up to go if the tt stands without use for a while. We don't winterize as the temp doesn't drop below freezing here

If you mean after every camping trip the answer would be "no". I only drain it at the end of the season when winterizing the unit.

I should add that draining the tank gets any sediment out rather than leave it in to build up over the years. Even those that don't winterize, so don't have to drain the tank, probably do once in awhile for this same reason.

OK, I'm done....

With the 'old' rig, I never bothered draining the H/W tank. With the "new" trailer, Jayco has conveniently included a bunch of low-point drains that appear to empty out everything, including the hot-water tank. Whenever I dump the black/grey tanks, I open up all the drains and empty everything out. Not sure if there's much of a fuel savings, but I figure there's no point hauling a bunch of fresh water around...

If we aren't going to use the trailer for more than a couple of weeks we drain the hot water tank. Otherwise, we don't. Obviously, we drain it for winterizing here in MN.

Depending on the water source, letting a full tank of hot water cool down and sit can produce a stagnant/smelly tank of water. Been there, done it.

Prior to breaking camp I'll turn the W/H off, then I open the kitchen sink hot water handle and leave it open until cold water is running out.

If I'm not going to use my TT for an extended period of time, I drain the tank.

Bob
