First long trip with raised Jayco 165

Finally took a long trip after installing the 2 1/2 spacers to raise the height of my Jayco 165. Went up through the Adirondacks. After installing the spacers I raised my ball height about 2" and left all the weight dist settings the same. I did not notice any difference in the handling or sway of the trailer and one day was very windy. My gas mileage actually went up slightly. On many previous trips I always average 10 - 11 mpg when towing. Always keep it around 60 mph. On this trip I averaged 12 mpg both ways.

The campground we stayed at had a very poor road going in and the site had a bit of a drop off from the road. With the increased height I had far less concerns about dragging the waste drains that sit low in the back. In the past this has always been a concern.

Very happy with the mod. Next step will be 14" wheels/tires when my current tires need replacing.

Looking forward to hearing about 14 inch tires also. So far I have not heard of anyone actually doing it. Every time I put on our wheel covers at home I have a tough time getting them on due to space.

Mine had 14 inchers when I bought it.

There is another 165 owner on this forum who posted that he went to 14" wheels and tires without raising the trailer and had no problems. With the Dexter lift kit on mine, there is plenty of room for 14" tires. Based on the clearance I now have, I am pretty sure that I could even go to 15" if I choose, but the plan is to go to 215/75 R14's for both easier availability and a bit more safety range on the weight rating. I will still be limited by the axle rating but believe the 14" tires should run cooler.
