First Timer Shopping

Hi All! I am shopping for my first travel trailer, yippee!

I had my heart set on the Keystone Outback Terrain 250TRS, sorry, Taboo here I know.

I think that will be too heavy though so reconsidering.

Here is my set up:

2004 Ford Expedition 4X2 5.4, V8, 3.73 with Heavy duty Tow pckg and upgraded tires.

GVWR 7100
GCWR 14500
UVW 5384 (when loaded with family is 6300)
RAWR 4128

I am currently looking at the Jayco Jay Feather Ultra Lite X254.

Wondering when the 2016 models will roll out. I see a few of their camping trailers on their website are 2016's. Love the rear slide set up. Would be interested to hear any experience with this model. I have 4 kids, a husband and 2 dogs so need plenty of sleeping room preferably without having to use dinette bed.

Thanks!

Zoë

Are there any "weekend" RV shows in your area where the family can go to see the travel trailers (TT's) you are interested in first hand? My wife and I did this when we bought.

You have already done your homework with your tow vehicle (TV), so finding one that the family will like will be the enjoyable part.

I second bucko's recommendation. Going to an RV show allows you to see many types of floorplans and brands in a short amount of time.

The only big one is in October. Don't know if I want to wait that long. Otherwise all I'm finding is the dealers putting on their own private ones which doesn't make sense to me. Like a marketing thing, really.

I started looking at the rear slide models during my search as well. I thought it was exactly what I needed with 3 kids and a dog. We looked at 4 or 5 used and all of them had water damage. We ended up with the 264BHW for not much more money than used trailers. The 264 also weighs less. Not as many options - but to me options meant weight and an upgrade to our tow vehicle is still a year or two away. The double over double bunks in Jaycos are nice if your kids are still young. Hope this helps a little.

A double over double model is definitely an option that we're looking at. I am not crazy about the floorplan of the 264BHW. Really want the U dinette so that all 6 of us can sit there together to play games and eat.

Plus, since we no longer get rain in SoCal water damage is not likely to be an issue. ;P
