Fresh Water Dump Valve - Suggestions?

My fresh water low drain valve drips constantly. Moving it back and forth doesn't seem to stop the leak, so I assume that it's just a bad valve.

I'll replace it - looking for more robust replacement suggestions? This thing looks like something I would have on my Yeti cooler (no offense to Yeti).

That is pretty much the standard water valve. Try making the valve handle parallel to the bracket or replace it with Your choice. It could have some trash in it also.

Mine will drip when in the same position as yours. If you can disassemble it and put some plumbers silicone on the inside moving parts, it will be better than a new one.

Yep, it's a cheap valve. When mine bites the dust. I plan to go to my local DYI home center, and purchase a 1/2", 1/4 turn ball valve. The hose looks to be 1/2", so the larger valve, will allow the tank to drain faster.

Mine ain't bit the dust, YET. It doesnt matter anyway because that's on the mods list for this spring. It takes a long time to fill and FOREVER to drain my tank. I've had enough of that nonsense.

I've got 2 of those because my camper has twin 40 gallon fresh tanks. I open them when I leave the dump station after camping so you don't want to be behind me going down the highway.

I have never seen a brass version. That is why I was figuring I would buy a 1/4 turn ball valve from my Home Center and install it. Most likely it will not be a direct replacement, but I have seen a bunch with mounting flanges.

I’ve always done the same thing, beats flooding my driveway when I get home. I’m sure some people passing wondered what the heck I was leaking or why their windshield was getting a free misting.

Since you all are talking about the drain valve, I have a question with it being exposed on the exterior on many rigs. Has anyone experienced a kid walking by when the rig is parked in a public space and had their valve opened, draining the tank? This would really suck, specially if you're boon docking.

I've thought about hiding the valve under the rig, so the causal observer walking by wouldn't get interested in it. Anyone consider that?

I have not, heard of this issue.

A friend traveling with a full fw tank to a remote campground, that has no running water, had a stone kick up from a tire and break the valve off. By the time he got into camp it was still draining, but not time or handy tools to stop the flow of water. He had to use the CG hand well pump.

Yeah, that too. Being exposed opens it up to that risk too.

Reason I asked my question is that we play tourist when we go out, and visit a bunch of public locations during the day, then roll into the CG at the end of the afternoon. So my rig is sitting in public parking lots during the day. Just wondering if anyone experienced a wandering kid looking to cause some mischief by opening the exposed valve.

I've never heard of that issue either.

Frankly I would be more concerned about the waste gate valves. I half expect to walk up to them one day and find them open.

I think at the end of the day, most people don't know what all those valves and switches are for on our rigs, so I would expect most people to leave them alone. No one wants to be covered with fecal matter, and to the unknowing masses, flipping that valve creates to them a real potential for that to happen.

We replaced ours with a larger valve to drain faster and extended it out further so I could reach it easier with my short arms.

Personally, I think that was some poor planning with placement of the valve. Generally they are under the unit with the low point drains and not in a location that is exposed to weather, foot traffic and junk coming up from the road. On top of that it is plastic.

Ok, this is what I ended up with. Will need to fill up tank to test for leaks but I'm a lot happier with this bad actor!

In our state it is illegal to have any liquid draining from a vehicle onto the roadway. And our state police do stop and cite for that offense. Just a FYI.
